The Countdown to Her First Birthday

Vintage Caroline's Home dolls house
source

Ruby is going to turn one on November 7th! I've got some MAJOR house cleaning and party designing to do before then. We're keeping it small but I'm still going to make it special. I'm especially excited about one of her handmade presents, the fancy cupcakes we're ordering, and the doll house on it's way (not the one above, unfortunately)!

Until then I'm playing catch up on e-mails, blog posts, and work for my first e-course! I'm not sure life is going to slow down much for the next few weeks, either. Brett turned on The Innocence Mission after the kids went to bed and it just melted all of that tension away for awhile. If you haven't heard of them they are one of my favorite bands from our college years. We kind of fell in love to their music.

Wednesday is for conquering something. Anything. Do it.

xoxo,
Rachel

  2. Eeep that dolls house is awesome I have one just like it but it's a bungalow. Also, for some reason, I drew on it with crayon when I was little, really wish I hadn't done that!

  3. Did you get her the FP Little People house to match her cool furniture? I had all that furniture when I was little. Some of it is still around at my parents but the best pieces have made it to my house ;) I love that the pieces are small enough for me to stick in my pocket when we're cleaning up!

  4. Ooh, I found that Caroline's Home dollhouse (mine has red doors) at a thrift store for $5 a couple years ago. What a score! It resides in my studio for now, but someday will hopefully be enjoyed by my 15 month old.

Instead, for now, she's getting a vintage Playskool dollhouse (like this one: http://mydreamdollhouse.com/playskool_dollhouse2.htm) that I also found at a thrift store, for Christmas this year. A little more toddler friendly!

    Got the chalkboard thought bubble-thanks!!

  9. Curtis Ernesto,

ha! Sorry...even if I weren't busy I'm kind of baffled with how to show someone how to do that online. I know there are plenty of YouTube tutorials for learning how to crochet, though, so I'm sure there are some for knitting as well.

    Good luck!

  13. I had the very same doll house as in your picture! Given away to a younger cousin around 1989 when as a wise old owl of 11 I felt I no longer needed it. I showed my Mum this photo and we shared a wonderful wander down memory lane, about the bird wall paper and the bedroom lamp that lit up... Thank you for sharing Rachel! X.

  14. I was looking at Elsie's blog and saw the felt board you made for the shop. Do you have one for a little boy? Or can you show a DIY for one? I would love to grab one (or make one) for my 3 year old. Fire trucks/firemen/cars? Or animals??? Any ideas? Thank you!

  15. The Innocence Mission is so wonderful... Lakes of Canada always puts me in a nice, meditative state.

How awesome to give your daughter a doll house! I think that's sort of a dying tradition these days...
