I don't know if we are midwest or south , kinda confusing. Anyhoo, I tried corn with no success. I did grow carrots, tomatoes(always easy), cilantro, my hairdresser has had much sucess with peppers so I am doing those this year. I tried pumpkins but they kind of over took my garden and didn't yield. Herbs have always been successful. Oh and yes squash and cucumbers are an easy one as well. Happy Gardening!cowboybunnyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05725021036637662887noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4351644930286151865.post-6303389968138015622010-03-04T14:00:00.841-06:002010-03-04T14:00:00.841-06:00Oh! We planted all those hearty things that do well in spring: peas, lettuce, onions, and garlic. It was our first spring garden, so we just experimented a bit.

The peas attracted rabbits that mowed them down anytime they shot up. So some friends gave us chicken wire to protect the garden. That worked well. The lettuce did well also, but we planted far more than we consumed. We found out at the beginning of summer that the onions and garlic need more time to grow before pulling them up...but we did get some use out of the green onion tops.

I highly recommend Schaffitzel's (northside). They have always been very helpful in answering our questions. Even the silly, obvious ones. They have a great, everproducing lemon tree, also, that's fun to see. I have a smaller one like it that we purchased there, now in bloom. We like to support them vs., say, Lowe's in lawn and garden items. We support Lowe's enough in house remodeling. :)

Also, the yard waste recycling center sells compost for cheap, or you can go all out and buy Zoo Doo (elephant dung) from the zoo. But it's coveted, uh, stuff, so you will need to order it early.

Hope it goes well. It's a great process watching things grow, and being able to self-sustain.OpaqueSkieshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12990100115497850563noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4351644930286151865.post-35652842168866310072010-03-04T10:17:42.886-06:002010-03-04T10:17:42.886-06:00ruby has the prettiest eyes. my goodness!

I don't babysit the plants too much, for better or for worse. depending on the weather, tomatoes and peppers are a sure bet. zucchini and squash too. lettuce and spinach can be really satisfying to grow because it comes up so fast and the young leaves taste the best anyway. they do best in colder weather, depending on your zone you might be able to start some now. okay. . longest comment ever! love that japanese tape too. yum. :)katielichthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15574485618168289847noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4351644930286151865.post-69319034353602943452010-03-04T08:43:57.119-06:002010-03-04T08:43:57.119-06:00Your daughter is BEAUTIFUL, holy cow.
