Before, After and Even Later

I had the best hair cut of my adult life today. Philip, a friend of Elsie's and a fabulous stylist, blocked out extra time and gave me the works. He cut it wet and then blow-dried it to work some magic while it was straight. He added a lot of texture and gave it some shape. I haven't seen it curly yet but I love it straight.

I had to remember to get a 'Before' shot in the car.

This is about an hour after the cut. It was so humid today that it started getting big and didn't have the smooth look I left the salon with.

This is after our RVA photo shoot. It was much bigger for the pictures but I tamed the beast for a few more fun shots at home.

Sebastian likes it.

Do I even need to tell you who fixed me up for the pics? Big hair is so fun!

So, I'm eager to see how it looks curly and if it will take some getting used to. I told Philip that I'd had more bad hair cuts than good ones but that this had to be the best one yet. Its SO NICE to finally feel confident in a stylist!

Do you have a bad haircut story? Do tell.

Happy Wednesday!

Your hair is adorable!

I had a haircut nightmare last year. Lets just say I went in with a super cute picture of what I wanted and came out with hair that was 2 inches long...all over. I never went back to her, ever. It's still growing and not even to my shoulders.

so cute!!! can't wait to see the photo shoot pics - big hair is totally fun ... elsie always has great hair so you're in good hands i'm sure! hehe.

in 3rd grade for some reason i (or my parents? not sure?) decided that i'd look cute with super short hair to my ears. just like straight across. i have really thick hair and it was just bad. so hideous! since then i've always been afraid to go too short.

I have curly hair as well, and I always avoided getting it cut because my hair would go limp the longer it got, and the stylists never believed me that they only needed to take an inch or two off for the whole thing to bounce back again. Of course, I've ended up with such monstrosities as fros, long bowl cuts, you name it. Then, I found ANDIE. She's amazing. I haven't had a bad haircut since.

well it looks like there's lot of layers, so you should have no problem getting a good shape. :) After you wash it, I would towel dry it, comb it with a wide toothed comb, and then use a product like "AG Recoil" or "Aveda: Be Curly-Curl Control" (love the smell!!) or something similar, while it's still damp and let it air dry like that, to avoid frizz. I have very straight hair naturally, so i don't have a ton of experience, but that's what I do in the salon..
If you want more volume to a style, try using "Recoil" or "Be Curly" again, and blow dry it with a diffuser, working in a circular motion.
This is a good video to check out...

Here's the product to check out as well...

You probably knew all of this already, but I hope it helps! xoxo holly

Love your hair, you look fantastic. You asked for bad so here it is... when I was in grade six I really wanted to get my hair permed. My mom said no but my Baba offered to do it. My mom then kind of gave in, she said I could only get my bangs permed. Yeah you read that right, just my bangs. I looked like a freak for over a year. My hair holds perm really well. It's still embarassing.

Too many bad hair cut stories!

The more recent one when the girl told me she could cut my hair so it would style wavy easily and therefore I would be able to style it wavy more often and therefore I would have an easy, quick style at my disposal.

Except for when I got home I realized she took out major chunks of hair when she was "thinning" it out and if left the bottom of my hair so thin and nasty looking. It was so short up by my roots that it was hard to get it clean! It's been two months and my hair still looks dreadful.

Ugh.

Just talking about it...

lol.

BUT I love your hair!! It looked lovely before but it looks really awesome right now!! Gorgeous!

Love the new do! It is so cute straight! :)

I used to have my hair super short and went to a new stylist. I showed her a picture of what I wanted and she butchered me...it wasn't even close to the photo and was basically a man's haircut. Sooo bad.

Love your hair, Rachel! So cool! I don't really have a bad haircut story, but basically one lady didn't want to cut my very long hair short and only gave me a trim after I had to plead. I ended up going to another place right afterwards to get it cut how I wanted.:P Still haven't found a good stylist either. So sad.:(

I will try to be brief.
I went to a stylist at Penney’s. I know right? But the whole time she was cutting and fixing (and I was turned away from the mirror) she was telling me all the fabulous shops she’d work at in the city and how much hair knowledge she had in comparison to other hair people in our little college town. I spent the whole salon experience thinking how cute I was gonna be based on her stories. I thought, “I am gonna be fabulous when she gets this done. She finally spun me around and I swear I was eye to eye with what Shirley Temple must have looked like in her thirties if she had kept her same little girl do. I know my face had to show my disappointment. I raced to the car to get barrettes to pull it back as much as I could until I could get somewhere to fix it. I did get a great laugh out of how ridiculous I looked in comparison to how cute I thought I was gonna be.

holy moly! do i ever!

it was just last month...I have curly hair just like you and i went into have a color and cut, long layers and some shape... and the girl did'nt look more than 18. i should have seen the BIG RED FLAG and ran screaming for the door, but i continued in because i had no kiddos under foot and thought this was the best possible time to do this. So we talked about my hair, chose a color and i told her that my hair was probably really porus because we have been spending alot of time at the beach...i don't think she heard me or just did'nt care because when we washed out the color it was a cross between BARNEY AND RONALD MCDONALD!!! i was shocked, because i told her that i just wanted a nice natural looking strawberry blond....seriously??!!! then she tried another color and it turned a dingy green color...ugh. i was there probably 4-5 hours and when i finally left there, i was in tears with ugly frizzy hair with no shape because she just did a blunt, all one length cut. so needless to say, it was AWFUL! good news is that the color washed out quickly and my hair is growing...
sorry for the long post.
you hair looks FABBBB!!!
can;t wait to see the photo of the RV girlies!

loves,
cyd

No hair cut disasters... hair color disastor though... came out with black over processed hair I was out of state and it was terrible. When I got back I had to have it cut really short. Yuck!

It seems that with us "curly hair" girls there are more horror stories than not! The funniest is when I was in first grade and wanted a page boy cut and I begged my mom to let me have one, she told me my hair wouldn't be nice and straight and lay flat.. oh, but I wouldn't listen and I cried and begged until she gave in ... boy was I sorry! The next morning after the cut I woke up to curls stuck to my head.. I'd never had my hair cut so short before! I wore a knit cap to school that day and it was September in Mississippi! Very hot... I learned my lesson.. don't think I ever had hair that short until well after I graduated high school.. LOL :)

and btw.. your hair looks wonderful!

Okay, yes. I feel like all my haircut stories end badly. I either end up looking horrible, or exactly like the hair dresser (or possibly a combination of both!)

Also - just wanted to say that I love your blog and have linked to it from mine. Hope that's cool :)

Thanks!

OMG, this last hair cut I just got is the worst EVER... my stylist has done my hair for 3 years but he must've been somkin' something when he did it this time! It's a style I've never had, it's parted in a place it doen't part naturally, and ( I have curly hair too) it HIDEOUS when it air dries! Crazy, sticky-outty half curls everywhere! There are tears just about every morning, but, it's just hair right? Oh well...

Yours looks fab btw!

i love your hair! i can't wait to see it curly!

so...i have a few bad haircut stories for you. [have a minute???]

the first one was right after i moved across country to virginia with my husband. about a month after we got there, i decided to be brave and get a haircut from a stranger [up until then, my aunt had cut my hair since i was a baby]. we went to this really cute salon called "bubbles" and i decided to dye my hair black. [[i'm naturally blonde, and i color my hair dark brown.]] and i described my haircut i wanted to the lady. she seemed like she knew what i wanted. but she didn't. so it turned out to be a pretty expensive haircut from a lady who also turned out to not speak english very well. i got home, and really started messing with it, and it was pretty much 5 different haircuts. *none* of it was the same length anywhere. and she had used semi-permanent color. so after a week and a half, my hair was black and brown splotches. the day after my haircut/dye job i found out i was pregnant. so i was a mess because every time i looked in a mirror i burst into tears.

we found a stylist of this model that i really liked and she did a great job and fixed it and cut my hair pretty good. it made me happy. then when i was 7 months pregnant, i decide, "i want to go blonde! like platinum blonde!" so we ask her and she says it's possible. so we start the process of bleaching my hair with really light bleach baths. but we were moving in a month back to arizona, so the last time we go to see her, she decides to surprise me and use the strongest bleach they have. it goes this horrific orangey yucky blond.

so we move. and i can't even brush it, because it just breaks off. [not good for my pregnant ego!] and i go see this really amazing salon about fixing it, because i'm due in 2 weeks. and they say that they don't do chemical treatments to pregnant women, because their hair reacts differently to it. so i had to leave it. i got it fixed two months after i had my baby. [i don't have hardly any pictures with her when she was tiny, because my hair looked so so horrible.] and it's just now starting to hold color again...

the end. that's quite a novel isn't it? haha!
