Oh, Hello.

My husband is such a catch that I decided to have him mounted to the wall. GROSS! He did chase Sebastian around his room making growling sounds behind this deer head. Sebastian told him where to shove it. Politely, of course.

For those of you who don't search eBay regularly for stuffed wildlife, one of these suckers might run anywhere between $150-$375 in good condition and mounted. How do I know this and why do I have one? Because it's SO trendy. Didn't you know? JUST KIDDING.

My brother has been looking for one to flesh out his new bachelor pad (mind the pun) and most have been a little out of his price range. When we were browsing a flea market in southern Missouri last weekend I walked into a stall with this little fella priced at a nice $65.00. After a few phone calls and a picture via camera phone, we were on our way home with a mounted deer head resting in our back seat next to our precious son. He pet it a lot. Every time Brett or I would turn to check our blind spots for a lane change those big eyes would be staring back at us. I'm still not used to seeing it in our house which means Joseph will be getting it sooner than he thought.

The thrift stores and flea markets have been generous lately. I'm much more reserved with what I bring home since Pony Party has been shut down for the season but it's been a little more exciting when I do find something just for me. It's my own kind of hunting, I suppose. This travel case might become my new weekend bag but in the mean time it is holding the yarn I found this afternoon.

It's all acrylic but seems to be on the high end quality-wise and much softer than I have ever found before. I got lucky finding such beautiful colors for such a great price. Oh, and that's the reverse side of my fabulous new duvet!

This is vintage fabric from a flea market in Rogersville, MO. It looks SO similar to some fabric I have from Heather Bailey. It's probably the most beautiful vintage fabric I've ever come across so I'm saving it for something special.

I also found a half apron in great shape that matched my kitchen colors, a set of pillow cases with a tatted edge (Cheryl!), and three plastic doilies. They are great for adding texture to art journal pages. (Margot, I'm saving you one.)

We found Sebastian a set of orange, plastic cups last weekend and a vintage espresso percolator and sifter today. He loves to play kitchen whenever he finds stuff like this in a flea market so I've been collecting a few things that won't easily break so that when he gets his play kitchen in July, it'll be decked out in vintage ware and ready to use. I've seen some fabulous DIY play kitchens on OhDeedoh this year so I'm hoping we can rig something up that is not only durable and practical but easy to look at.

The chicken that I picked up at the farmer's market this morning has been butchered sufficiently and is simmering in my mother's chicken and rice recipe. Brett has been given the task of de-gizzarding the carcass and turning it into chicken soup tomorrow. A pregnant nose can only handle so much and I'm not sure I want to test my gag reflex any longer.

p.s. My husband is halfway through the first book in the Twilight series. I know. He's a catch.

This is actually one of the deer Edward hunted down and slaked his thirst with. He gave it to me afterwards. He's so cool.

When the image of the deer head showed up in my google reader, I could not for the life of me think which one of the bloggers I follow would post something about it! Hilarious!

Mine won't read the books, but he did surprise me with tickets to the movie on opening night and sat next to me the whole time! :)

My husband steals my Twilight books before I read them, and he reads the last 4-5 chapters. Then when we have conversations about it, he acts all smug because he knows more about it than me!!

that picture is too funny! my dad and brothers were/are hunters, so {unfortunately} i grew up with mounted deer heads on the wall...i didn't realize people actually paid to hang someone else's deer on their wall!
great flea market finds, and i love that your man is reading twilight...

Wow! My husband won't read the books, but he'll sniff my neck if I ask nicely.

Love the story about the deer in the backseat... I would have had to give it sunglasses or something so I didn't feel like I was being watched! ;)

ahhhhh those are some fantastic thrifting finds!!! there aren't too many thrifting/flea market opportunities around where i live which i why i always have to resort to Ebay and/or Etsy vintage shopping - not quite the same feeling though.

Sigh...so envious of your amazing thrifting skills. The vintage fabric is especially wonderful.

Like Sebastian, my little nephews are very keen on playing kitchens, and I bought them this - http://www.littlebundles.co.uk/prodpage.asp?ProdID=956 - earlier in the year. Not vintage, but wooden and adorable. They like it almost as much as I do. :)

That blue bag would make a perfect diaper bag, if you have a little boy.

Cool deer head and a 6 point at that. LOL Can you tell I grew up in the country and this is what my Dad did? I won't go into the story of how old I was when I went hunting the first time. You may be sick. I remember the wild life on the walls, can't believe this is "in style". I'll have to tell Dad, he'll be so happy.

I love all of your flea market finds and Sebastin looks so cute in the photos.

And my Husband went with me to the premiere and watched the movie with me, he's even seen it again on DVD. He wants to read the book, he just doesn't get a lot of time to read. He's reading Snowball by Warren Buffett right now. I told him Twilight is better.

Great job on the chicken. I won't tell you that story either.....I was raised in the country, I'll leave it at that.

Great post.

Hobby Lobby has their own brand of yarn called "I love this yarn" - it's the softest and "most for your money" acrylic yarn I've found so far. It washs and wears nicely too. If you have a Hobby Lobby near you check them out - def. worth it!

Woah, woah, woah. . . Twilight?! There are so many things I thought were off limits husband-wise, but I'm starting to think my husband made that rule up.

I think it's cute your hubby is reading the Twilight books. My husband loves the movie but he's not a big reader he just made me tell him what happens!

Those thrift finds are great! I love the blue bag. And, honestly, that deer head is terrifying. SInce I was a kid, I've had an irrational fear of any form of taxidermy. If anything could flesh out a bachelor pad, this will do it!

A man that will read Twilight = hot! I recently had a Twilight conversation with a very attractive male, and he definitely got brownie points!

My dad is a hunter (well, used to be) and has like 8+ deerheads like that in his home. They scare me a bit, but I think they are funny at the same time. I had no idea that they could sell for a good price though! Neat!

he he...totally cute that your hubby's reading Twilight! :) And eew on real deer heads, but I totally love the faux little handmade, no-actual-harmed-animal ones. :) I'm super jealous of your flea markets, too - haven't found many fab places around here. (sigh). I live vicariously through your finds, sorta. lol...Happy day!
