Hormonal Motivation Works For Me

What I'm talking about is the growing urge to nest now that I know we're having a baby girl rather than a baby boy. I finally have permission to start the granny square blanket I've been wanting to make since last Fall. The desire to get started has been there all along but I'm giving credit to the hormones for making it happen.

Thankfully not everyone has to be hormonally motivated to start something new. If you've been wanting to try but haven't found the right tutorial or find it all a little overwhelming, you may want to stop by my post at the RVA blog. You'll get some eye candy, links, and tutorials to get you started. Give yourself plenty of run throughs on the tutorials before actually picking up your needle to get your head wrapped around the pattern involved. Once you realize how easy it is, you'll be able to watch your newest Netflix DVD and get something done at the same time.

p.s. This is a practice square using yarn from my current stash. Ruby is getting something much prettier!

gorgeous colours! perhaps for a 4th of July picnic blanket for next year?
And I don't know if you've seen but rosehip has a beautiful pattern for crocheted flower cushions (these are the finished ones here: http://rosehip.typepad.com/rose_hip_blog/2009/04/index.html & this is the pattern: http://rosehip.typepad.com/rose_hip_blog/2008/11/index.html)
I think little Ruby would love some of them for her room!
Best of luck with your crocheting endeavours,
Cate

Ruby is such an adorable name. It's classic yet very fresh at the same time.

One of these days, with all the needlework going on on all these blogs I read I'm going to pick one up, I swear. Until then, I look forward to seeing what you make.

Can't wait to see the finished product! I know how to knit but not how to crochet, so maybe it is time to learn!

LOVE this and I have been driving myself crazy wanting to make granny squares; I love looking at 'granny a day' on flickr. I think your post is going to push me to finally give it a go. (I wish you could just jump on over to my house to show me, though! that would be fun.)

I do love the term 'hormonal motivation.' It just sounds right.

Hey

I have a request. I saw those flower shaped design crochet pieces on Red Velvet and so want to learn them, but I just don't know how to. I'm new to the world of crochet and have absolutely fallen in love with those flowers. Where can I possibly see how to learn to do those?

Any suggestions will be so, so appreciated :)

I'm pretty sure Sarah London Textiles did them and there is a link to her flickr site on the RVA blog post. She'd be the one to ask as I'm still just learning myself.

Good luck!
