Vintage Around The House

Our house has that 'been away for two weeks and brought a lot home with us' look. Mostly, a lot of laundry and birthday presents that need to be organized and put away, but one of the more exciting things to find a spot in our home was a dress my mom wore in a family wedding when she was five or six. It's a lovely gold satin and makes me happy every time I walk past.

This vintage brownie is in the shop but I have a similar one with its original flash that used to belong to my grandparents. It's sitting on top of my pink wardrobe along with two of my favorite vintage Polaroid cameras. I love the look of these cameras but having one that actually belonged to my family makes it even more of a treasure.

This is the bike we don't ride. We found it on Craigslist earlier this year and loved the look of it but didn't test ride it before we put it in the car and drove away (lesson learned). When Brett took it to the bike shop to see about a new part, he found out that the frame was bent and that it wasn't going to be a cheap fix. In fact, it was going to cost twice as much more to repair it than we had paid for it. In mint condition these models sell for a pretty penny but this well loved bike is mostly just keeping our front porch company. We call it yard bling.

I've received quite a few nice surprises in the mail this year (Thanks, Lacy, Leigh-Ann, Jenny, and a few more). This box of vintage clipboards is from Lucy who had a ton of them left over from when she used to register runners at races. I'm hoping to get busy with these this week and make more collages for the RVA shop.

Speaking of RVA, I've just listed a few more of my 3-D art journaling box sets. This is the last batch so if you've been thinking about one, you may want to think fast!

Next on the list:

* Draft patterns for new baby products.
* Make more collaged ACEO cards.
* Sort through Sebastian's toys and pass along the ones he's outgrown.
* Try out my first crocheted granny square!
* Jot down ideas for Ruby's side of the room. (p.s. We've decided on Ruby for her first name but the jury is still out on middle names.)
* Work on blog changes. This girl is getting a face lift and some new features soon!

It was fun to hear how many of you are getting excited about upcoming road trips. It made me want to go camping on the beach near Seattle and then take a road trip along the East Coast. Send us a post card or something. :)

The dress is so precious. I love that it has a story.

You could always paint some of the clipboards with blackboard paint. I just did that in Audrey's room and I found pink blackboard paint. They look really cute all hung up.

That dress is perfect. And I LOVE the name Ruby! And what cool yard bling! I don't remember what site I was on, but I saw people using vintage bikes as planters in their front yards. It looked really cool.

The bike looks a lot like one my mom had a few years back. :) I loved it, sadly it was stolen right in front of us. lol it actually was kinda funny (she didn't think so at the time of course). That style bike is so awesome tho. At least you'll have some nice eye candy, even if yall cant ride it. :)

And I love that vintage dress. Apparently good taste runs in the family, eh?

Hey!! I love the name Ruby, it reminds me of that Kaiser Chiefs song!! I am going to be in Arkansas in a couple of weeks in the Fairfield Bay, Clinton, Mountain View, Heber Springs area, and I was wondering if you know that area at all and if so if you could recommend some can't miss antique/flea market stops.
Thank you,
Rebecca

Rebecca,

Unfortunately, I've not been down to explore AR as much as I'd like. The only town we've been to with some great shops is Hardy, AR. It's about twenty or so minutes south of Missouri but I'm not sure if it's close to where you're going.

Good luck, though. I imagine you'll find some great shops without having to look too hard down there.

FYI, I collect vintage bikes and have to say, yours doesn't look so bad. Try taking it to another bike shop for another quote. A mom and pop kind of bike shop works best for me. Also, if you are interested, there is quite a market on Ebay and Craigslist for vintage bike parts so you could always part it out and probably make more tahn you paid for it. Just an idea because I agree, unless it gets stolen, it makes nice yard bling!
