Things I Love From RVA

This sweet Pumpkin Spice Bow.

These Olive Nerd Glasses!

Something to keep things organized as all the crazy happens.

The squirrel.

The fox.

And of course, the 'gender neutral but really intended as something for the men in our lives because everything else at RVA is for the ladies' leather journal. This is a new design and one I love for it's simplicity and modernity. Rugged and smart at the same time, right?

I'm out for the weekend to catch up on life while enjoying Brett's family and the flea marketing that will ensue. It's been a testing week with a new schedule and less time to give to work as Brett has started grad school and is finishing up the rest of his to do list to enroll in the ROTC and Reserves. We're learning how to manage the new normal as well as we did with the old normal and are hoping for good returns on our investments. There will be a separate blog post with the back story on this for anyone who is wondering where that came from.

I hope you have a refreshing weekend and get some time for yourself.

xoxo,
Rachel

Hey Rachel,

A dear friend of mine's husband went back to grad school a year ago and she told me that the key to making it for them has been to have a super structured, strict schedule. He studies at certain times every day (minus Sunday) away from home, so that when he is home he can give 100% to them. He is home every day for dinner. They keep a solid date night every single Friday. Sunday is family day no matter what. It has been a long and tough year, but they have been able to keep a fairly healthy family life and marriage because they have been so intentional with how they spend their time. Sorry I am totally rambling. When I read this post, I just thought of them and wanted to share just in case you are feeling overwhelmed about how it is all going to work! I will be praying for you guys!

AndieMae,

Thank you for some encouragement in that department! It's felt overwhelming and I keep trying to tell myself we're going to have to just figure out the best way to work with our new time demands and that it'll take some time but I like the idea of setting some guidelines ahead of time. EVERY MARRIED COUPLE NEEDS A WEEKLY DATE NIGHT!

I also keep telling myself that Army wives do this all by themselves every day and that even though we won't have to deal with that for a few years, I need to take advantage of the ways it's going to teach me to be more independent.

So, now I kill my own bugs and take the trash out to our scary backyard after dark.

I am excited to hear about ROTC. I am a veteran and love to hear when more young people discover the meaning of Service. The Army really does take care of its Families; I think you will all enjoy this journey.
