doodling

Hello! It's Ruby from Cakies and I am so honored to be a guest blogger here at Smile and Wave. Thank you so much Rachel!

First off, I wanted to say congratulations to the adorable Denbow family for their "Little Red." She is so, so precious and I can't wait to learn more about this new addition. Plus, I must say that her name is one of my favorites. :) Second, if you are here, it is because you love crafting in all kinds of mediums and that means you have tons of ideas floating around in your sweet heads...

In our home, we have what we like to call a "family sketchbook" sitting on our coffee table alongside a vast array of color pencils ready for our doodling pleasure. It really helps foster creativity and keep track of everyone's little doodles all year long, even when friends and relatives come over, they have doodled in the book too!

Obviously, most of the book is filled with drawings done by my girls, Brave and True, as they like to work together (and sometimes even fight together). Now, that the year is coming to an end, it is nice to look through the book and see how they drawings have changed just from the beginning of this year. Their drawings change so much as they learn to understand more of the world around them.

Here are just a couple excerpts from pages of our "family sketchbook":

So if you want to capture all those ideas and little doodles that are floating around at anytime of the day, just stick a blank sketchbook somewhere accessible (we chose the coffee table) and some colored pencils and you will be sure to have a nice collection of art and memories when the book is full! This isn't just for kids, this is for us grownups too! Trust me, there are plenty of mine and my Ben's doodles in the book as well!

I will see you all back here tomorrow...

I LOVE this idea - and I don't even have kids. But how fun would it be if you had all visitors draw a little when they came over? Thanks for the wonderful idea.

This idea is awesome. My kids spend so much time coloring and I never know what to do with all the loose pages. Now I just have to find a book with a bazilion pages so it can last an entire year.

This is an awesome idea. I've actually been wrestling with what to do with all the kiddos art projects of late. My munchkins come home with about 10 sheets a day from preschool. New idea - 3 ring binder with clear sheet protectors so we can slip all the projects in as they are completed. At the end, voila, a recap of the year's seasons and art! Yay!
