'Make It Work'

I have a rule at my house about childrens' clothing with certain images containing cartoon characters or precious little baby animals. However, when I saw this little number I knew it was worth making an exception.

I decided on a couple of colors and played around with single and double crochet stitches.

Once I was happy with the size of my crochet work, I pinned it to cover the bear scene and used a needle and thread to stitch it on so that the stitching is hardly noticeable.

I've seen a few ideas online about how to cover up unexciting images before but the crocheted part was a specific treatment that I saw recently on Flickr. Unfortunately, I can't find it again so if you know of something that might fit the bill, feel free to link it in the comments.

My little Ruby has been sleeping for two and three hour stretches today which means I am getting some things done! I'm feeling pretty great thanks to pampering from my mom these last few days. We miss her already! We've been so fortunate to have family members taking such good care of us. It's made all the difference.

Don't forget to check out Ashley's Guest Blogger post below!

xoxo,
Rachel

So cute- nice work. I'm on your bandwagon with the anti-cute animal clothes.... :)

That looks adorable. I totally agree about the animals and stuff on baby clothes. I don't have a baby (hopefully soon) : ) but whenever I buy for friends I never buy that stuff. : )

I also dislike the "cute" bears etc on baby clothing. This is a great cover-up ;-)
I'm so happy for you that everything is going so well with you all and baby-Ruby. Congratulations!

i have that same rule at my house. also no character and/or light up shoes.
i love the addition of the crochet. what a great way to cover up the less desirable "cute" animal!

I think I know the picture on flickr that you're talking about, I saw it too but I can't find it now. It's a great idea and the snowsuit looks much better!

Hi Rachel,

Just had to say congrats on your newest addition and also wanted to let you know that the name of one of my favourite bands is 'Little Red'. They're a shooby-doo-wap type act from Melbourne (http://www.myspace.com/littleredmusic) and I thought you might enjoy listening to them while you're hanging out with your own Little Red :)

I was SO with you on the cartoon characters! My mother-in-law is obsessed with buying cartoon character clothing for our kids and it makes me crazy. I even tried to explain that they're just like little advertisements on babies, but I'm still covering up yucky little beasts with cute fabric. :)

great idea, and so cute! glad to hear everything is going so well.

i am also super picky about animals on clothing. i LOVE animals, but never licensed characters or anything too cutesy. there's a real fine line there.

oh, i love it, rachel! after i used little doilies and bits of lace to patch some moth holes in my pink wool dress i have had to seriously fight the urge to stitch them on everything!

i'm so glad you are all doing well and resting!

I LOVE IT! I have that same rule at my house (I like simple kids clothing, why must they ruin it with cartoons and sayings?) So this is a wonderful idea! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!
