Art That Inspires

I love these bright, detailed pieces. They are inspiring me on this wet, spring day!

We had a full day of sunshine and warm weather yesterday, though so I can't be mad about the rain today. Our backyard is already starting to green up and the first bulb flowers are blooming in bunches left and right. The woman who owned this house before our landlords put a lot of bulbs in seemingly random places throughout our huge mess of a..., I mean, lovely shaded and snake filled, I mean, spacious and overgrown, I mean...full of potential backyard. It's like a mine field of daffodils, Iris, and tulips each spring. It means we usually have fresh flowers in our house!

The most strange thing about this year is that certain spring smells, sights, and sounds all combine in ways that trigger the feeling of the first trimester nausea that i had last year with Ruby. So much so that I have taken a pregnancy test! It was negative, of course, and there aren't ANY other usual signs so I'm pretty sure it's just one of those things. I think it's just like how the smell of puffy paint reminds me of Brownie crafts and Alanis Morissette will always take me back to freshman year of high school. Isn't it ironic, don't ya think?

I'm hoping the nausea triggers will be replaced with new sight and smell memories so that I don't have to go through the worst part of pregnancy without even being pregnant! Has anyone else ever had this happen to them?

The weekend is coming! The weekend is coming!

xoxo,
Rachel

YES! I'm going through the exact same thing this spring! Walking through the easter aisles at Target is bringing back nausea like never before because I was so sick this time last year! Glad I'm not the only one! That's too funny!

i almost took a pregnancy test last week too! all of my coworkers perfumes were really bothering me and I felt like my kitchen smelled like onions days after I cooked them. (sensitivity to smell was one of the biggest hassles in my early pregnancy.) It did go away but for a few days I was totally weirded out.

i love those collages by a. tucker. finding a new artist on flickr that i love always makes my day.

Yes! Blueberry bagels being toasted brings it all back to me. Although I am in my first trimester of my 3rd pregnancy so EVERYTHING is bringing it back for me now.

Wow, I guess most of our memory is stored on our senses!

When I was going through a very rough 1st and 2nd trimester of "morning" sickness with my second I had just scored a couple of gorgeous mid century mod dressers for our bedroom, after a couple of days put out all day long in bed I developed a terrible assosiation of nausia with those beautiful dressers. They were imediately put on craig's list for far too less (can you tell that I wish I had them back). It took me a while to not get sick from looking at mid cent mod furniture, I even had to quit looking at some of my favorite blogs durring that time.

I absolutely ADORE that piece by Geninne called Desert Song. BEAUTIFUL! I want it. :)
Hopefully you'll pass quickly through your nostalgic nausea and be able to enjoy spring fully. Ciao for now.

THe nausea could be from dehyration. It happened to me (while breastfeeding)
Also, allergies from the pollen, etc. could cause it (since you have a "natural" backyard! you are more likely to have a lot going on back there!)
You might try a gatorade-like drink. THey make low-calorie ones. It sure helped me! Good luck!

This post is awesome because I thought I was going crazy! I had my daughter a few days before you had Ruby and for the last few weeks I've been nauseous too and took a test also - good grief! What's the deal? :)

ohh, fresh flowers. There is a floor at work, the 10th floor, and it houses The Greenhouse, which is a huuuuge table that seats like 30 people, and in the middle of the table is always fresh flowers or greens. They recently planted some daffodils. And other pretty purple/white flowers :)

There are certain pieces of art I worked on during my first pregnancy (5 years ago) that I can't look at or even think about without feeling nauseous! And it's too bad, because thay are pieces I otherwise would have really liked!

We went to see Mates of State the weekend I found out I was pregnant, and my husband listened to them rather often throughout the first trimester, then when our (now 13mth old) son was tiny, he played them to him and I had to leave the room! Total nausea trigger. A year on, and all the nausea is gone, so I hope you find the same this time next year.

When I got pregnant with my 2nd daughter I was nauseous all the time and had just bought my oldest one of those music cds that play her name in the songs...to this day (5 years later!) if she happens to play that cd I feel sick and it all comes back to me, I always thought that was so weird! I'm glad I am not alone! :)
