Brett had been pining for a Vespa of his own since our days in Seattle over four years ago.
He found a used one for sale in Arkansas and checked the ad daily to see if it had sold.
We talked about getting it in May or June if it was still available but neither of us really expected it to be. It was a great deal. So, I decided to surprise Brett on Saturday morning with a trip to Rogers, AR to pick up his new mode of transportation as an early birthday gift.
I told the boys the night before that I wanted to go out for breakfast since we hadn't done that in awhile and to ensure that they'd be willing to get up and dressed in a hurry. I packed all the necessary items, grabbed my camera, and joined them in the car. We pulled out in the opposite direction of Aunt Martha's and Brett asked where we were going so I told him Waffle House. He gagged. Then I told him we were on our way to pick up his Vespa. He didn't believe me.
Six hours later his GTV 250 was parked in front of our house! He rode 100 miles home, partially in the rain, with almost no riding experience. And he looks pretty good in his riding jacket and helmet! I think I've earned a few back rubs but seeing him so happy was pretty satisfying. I'm really looking forward to date nights on the back of this thing!
xoxo,
Rachel

My husband and I had a wonderful Vespa adventure on an island in Greece and fell in love with them... we were saving up for one (light blue is my fave!) when we lived in Washington state, but then moved to LA and realized it would be way too scary to drive one around here.

I'm looking for one right now and I'm so jealous!
ReplyDeletethis is ADORABLE! you're so sweet!
ReplyDeleteawww, that's such a sweet thing to do Rach :) I remember you mentioning this a few years ago, glad his dream came true...AND an iPhone, he must be on cloud9 :)
ReplyDeleteMy dream vespa is at this little shop down the road. It's camel and aqua and the seat lifts up for storage and there is room for two.
ReplyDeleteI love them.
Always reminds me of Audrey Hepburn from Roman Holiday zipping around Italy on her vespa.
Ben and I did that in Italy. Almost got ourselves killed. We lasted 25 mins. I was so not Audrey sitting pretty on it. I was more Stephen King's Carrie hanging from Ben's shoulders. :)
xx
oh perfect!
ReplyDeleteonce you go vespa - you never go back. my husband and i can attest!
the happiest of early birthdays to you Bret!
What an AWESOME gift.
ReplyDeleteFun! My fav is the one in green. Now I can add this to my list of things I want in that color. A vespa and a kitchen aid.
ReplyDeleteGrief.
VERY sweet!
ReplyDeleteawe, how cute! hooray for two vespas!
ReplyDeletei especially adore the icy blue one pictured first. i love everything in that color and now have to add that vehicle to my list! <3
Aww!! What a fun surprise!
ReplyDeleteSuper sweet! :D Bless his heart riding home in the rain. <3
ReplyDeleteJust a reminder to your readers...Yes, scooters are cute, but unless you are going to park them in your living room and just look at them, their primary purpose is as motor vehicles.
ReplyDeleteRachel, I'm curious, does your state require riders to have a motorcycle license? Pennsylvania requires an M license for all scooters over 49cc...But it also offers the Motorcycle Safety Foundation course for free to residents. It's a good class to take if Brett hasn't already. Plus, some insurance companies give discounts to those who pass the course.
Congratulations on your new addition. I wish Brett (and you) many safe miles.
You are so awesome!! I think this deserves many back rubs to come!!! Have fun on date nights!
ReplyDeletePiccolotakesall,
ReplyDeleteYes, we are excited that Brett's got his own transportation to classes and work and drill so that we can have a car to get out of the house whenever we want now!
He is required to take the motorcycle safety course through the military and I will probably get my permit someday so that I can drive it but right now I'm just happy to ride on the back. It's a big, heavy scooter!
Ahh thats such a sweet suprise! I hope someone suprises me with the turquoise one at the top hehe xx
