An Afternoon Well Spent

Sebastian asked for a fort so we put his table on his bed, covered it with blankets, and added a few books to the mix. He wanted to sleep with his fort up all night so we let him, along with his trains. Last week it was a basketball and Percy every night. And then there's always Teddy.

He has so many bedtime rituals that can exhaust me by the time we're through but I've noticed lately that he's letting a few of them go and I'm kind of mourning the loss of them as he grows into his almost four year old self. In fact, the very bed he sleeps in is no longer big enough to contain those long legs so we're on the look out for a big boy bed. For now, though, I'm going to keep building the forts ,and reading the books, and putting up with the bedtime check list while he still wants me to tuck him in and kiss him goodnight.

xoxo,
Rachel

forts are amazing!! we made my daughter one on a rainy day and she played in it by herself (& she's terrible at independent play) for 2 hours, she drew and "read"...and i got everything i needed to do that day done. She got sucked in my the fort magic!

Rachel,
Treasure the bedtime rituals. My son is almost 13 but he still insists I tuck him in and kiss him goodnight. One evening I was so tired, I went to bed before him. He came and woke me up to tuck him in. Understandably, I was not impressed and refused, to which he replied "One day very soon I might want nothing to do with you, Mommy. You should tresure these moments". Well I had to laugh because heknows that this is something I fear as he heads into teenagehood. I now tuck him in every night, no questions asked. =P

I love it. My sons are fort guys too. I use to love to make forts out of the cushions from our couch. Something sweet, fun and exciting about being hidden away in your own little world.
