The Magic In Our Backyard

For the dear Kara, who has never seen the glow of a firefly.

xoxo,
Rachel

p.s. While capturing our magical fireflies on video, Sebastian was doing a little catch and release. Only he was releasing them into our house! YIKES.

  6. awwww I remember when I was a little girl sitting up north at my grandparents campground and I had this long silky cream colored night gown, and I remember catching them and putting them beneath the material and watching them light up :) I am in Michigan

  7. Sigh. I so miss those little bugs. I never saw one either until I lived in Missouri a few years ago. I used to go for walks in the evening passing by a field appropriately called firefly field. There were thousands. It was gorgeous. I wish we had that here in NY. Thanks, that was lovely <3

  8. I miss "lightning bugs"!! They were always so much fun but I haven't seen one in the longest time. We didn't have them back in California and we don't have them in North Carolina...at least neither not in the places I lived in those states!

  10. I love fireflies - they are one of my favorite things about summer. I used to have a little bug catcher that I would put them in every night (my parents would open it and let them out before they went to bed, of course!).

  11. We caught "storm" bugs last nite too! Grayson calls them storm bugs instead of lightning bugs. ;)
Tho he forgot he was on the porch, saw one and took off running, tripped over the side rail on the porch and flipped onto the ground. (He didn't catch it, lol)
Such magic in a little bug!

  12. i wonder what the lightning bug populations are like in different states? reading the comments, they're not in ny or nc, but we have them in abundance in maryland and definitely in west virginia where i used to spend summer vacations.
