Introducing...The Typewriters

I've been collecting them for about two years. I've come across about six more beauties but sold them when I had PonyParty, my vintage Etsy shop. I still have a hard time saying no.

And it's time to order some more film for the Instax 210.

I think I've got about eleven solid collections, most of them vintage. Typewriters, globes, little girl dresses, chairs, etched glassware, rulers, quilts, clipboards, suitcases, thermoses, and vintage fabrics. I've had to put the kibosh on a few before we turn into an episode of American Pickers, or it's slightly less glamorous predecessor Hoarders! Yikes.

What do you collect?

xoxo,
Rachel

that's a lot of typewriters! do all of them work?

...and i collect rubber duckies... to decorate the future bathroom of my dreams!

Very nice collection! I have 2, but it's hard to come across nice ones here. I mostly collect vintage pyrex bowls, aprons, dala horses and fisher price toys (I'm due in December, so have an excuse to buy them!). Btw the show "Horders" gives me collection guilt (even though my place is far from crazy) and makes me want to clean my house.

Amazing! I would love to have a collection like that, but I've learned that I need to collect things that take a bit less space...

so funny. i was a chronic collector as a child: rocks, the clips that hold men's dress shirts together at department stores, dalmatian puppies (plush, not real) but now I don't seem to have any prominent collections other than my aprons!

Your typewriters are fantastic.

I collect salt and pepper shakers (it was a hand me down collection from my gramma. I only buy ones I love and want to display.), cameras, thermos', owls (though if I add more I may become the owl lady), coasters (I trade them out when I get tired), typewriters, fabric, buttons, aprons, black cermaic poodles from the 40s/50s, pyrex mixing bowls/casserole dishes, ceramic dinosaurs. I keep a strict limit on my collections and only have what I can display. I trade them out often and only buy what I love. I don't want to turn into an episode of hoarders. My husband helps keep it all under control too :)

holy moly that's a lot of really awesome type writers.

this reminds me of the time a few years back I bought a typewriter on craigslist sight unseen (no picture.) turns out not all vintage typewriters are cute! that one was a huge ugly black monstrocity. yours are great though. do they work?

like tara above me, i've started to collect the old fisher price little people toys from my childhood. and I have a decent collection of mismatched dessert plates with states on them. hm, haven't added to that in a while, maybe a trip to the thrift is in order. . .

gorgeous collection and sequence of photographs! I don't have any collections really, except fabric, which is a terrible obsession!

Awesome typewriters! Cool collection :)

love the old typewriters...since we live in a 500 sq. ft. apartment right now, I'm trying hard to not collect anything...but I do love the idea of collecting globes. They have such pretty colors.

I love typewriters. I almost bought mysef one on a fleamarket a while ago but the downside of having to restrict my belongings is that such things aren't allowed. So my collections are small and easy to carry: Postcards, Buttons and Cupcake liners.

Love your blog btw. Zelde

I collect absolutely nothing--if they made a show about my problem, it would be called "Scarcity," because I am a compulsive non-shopper. But I do love to look at other folks' lovely collections, so keep 'em coming. ;-)

I love old typewriters...I actually have one of my own! Check it out http://bluebirdandtree.blogspot.com/2010/09/what-nice-cozy-sunday-it-is-over-my-way.html

I really love your collection, though. They are all very awesome :)

I'm waiting for the History Channel to put out a show called "American Thrifters" where awesome ladies travel the states thrifting pretty things and adding to collections. like, instead of them getting all OMG! about a vintage harley, they get excited about a sweeeet bedsheet. hahaha probably not as marketable.

I love the little red typewriter. So cute, and I am sure if I saw your entire vintage fabric collection I would be drooling with jealousy.

That's a great collection of typewriters!
Your house is far too pretty to end up looking like something from hoarders! ;)
hehe x

I love your typewriter collection..and I laughed when you mentioned hoarders! My husband scares me into not getting stuff with that accusation!! I collect ceramic kitties, owls, and deer, strange dolls (Little Miss No Name), zombie figures, Living Dead Dolls, Rainbow Brite dolls...and that's about it. :) Believe me..its not as bad as it sounds, you can see some of my stuffs on my blog, behind me in pics! :) Take Care, Janna Lynn

I have a growing collection of vintage telephones, cameras, Fisher Price toys, and children's books. Especially the ones illustrated by Eloise Wilkin.

I blogged today about my latest thrifty finds, thank you for visiting last week! Your blog is always an inspiration!

And Bring back PonyParty! :)

Amanda said...

LOL!!! lOve the typewriters! I always thought that if the guys from American Pickers would just visit hoarders they could both help each other out a little! ;) I like your thinking!

I really like your photo story, too!
I don't really collect anything. It's my greatest downfall; I think, to not have "favorites". * Sigh*

Rachel! I am jealous of your typewriter collection. Super jealous.

I collect old paintings of women, cameras, camera equipment, DVDs of TV shows, sewing paraphernalia, tablecloths, crocheted blankets, doll versions of actual people, dolls I had as a kid and my mean Mom threw away (haha), Halloween decorations and obnoxious 70s clothes (the more obnoxious the better).

That's a great collection. I have one and it's electric and I love its gray colors.

I collect camping themed items and cameras. I'd love to have more typewriters if I can find them. I want to start collecting Pyrex but haven't found that either.

I am trying to start collecting instant photos! Would you be interested in participating in the project I just started (since I know you have instant cameras!)?

I'd love to own any of your typewriters! Where do you keep them? They're so many, haha.

As for what I collect, I can't help keeping all te pretty clothes tags I get when I buy clothes and grab lots of different free postcards available in pubs, clothing stores and art galleries. I use the prettiest oes for collages and as birthday cards =).

Hope you're having a nice day! It's puring down here in Buenos Aires! I don't wanna leave home! =/

Hug!

Great pictures! I collect hob nail glassware, but only buy a piece if it is an interesting location/or I can tie a story/memory to it. Some pieces were given to me, some thrifted etc.

I love to collect vintage pyrex. I also love anything with a boy on it, either figuring or plates. All I have is a boy so I don't want anything with a girl on it. I have like 10 porcelain dolls. (The dolls were collected before my son was born). Now hopefully if I have any granddaughters they will inherit those.

I don't really collect anything, but I do have a lot of yarn!

Wendy B said...

OMG! I used to have one like the little red one. Is that from Sears? If so, I picked mine out of the Sears catalog (a Looonnggg time ago) and received it for christmas. Loved that typewriter. Don't know what happened to it. Thanks for the pics. I think I'm the hunt now for my childhood typewriter.

I collect precious moments, porcelain or anything else... ive got it allll. Growing up I collected pencils, I should do a blog of it. I have TONS, all different shapes sizes, styles and from alllll over the world and country. I do'nt have plain ones, i got my first one in YEARS back in the spring when my bro in law went fishing at Black Lake (I think its up north in NY). I started a collection for my goddaughter and her dad got her one and one for me.

I love your collection of vintage typewriters....I have a pale blue one but not used it yet. Its mainly a deco piece at the moment. I hoard vintage glass bottles..prettily displayed in the bathroom due to lack of space!

pinksuedeshoe said...

I collect/hoard typewritesr too. I've got four from the 1920's-late60's, my favorite being a 50's pink royal quiet deluxe. But I also collect pretty pyrex, and washi tape (62 rolls.....) and then I collect fabric and pieces of vintage stitchery. And pear figures. And I'd love to collect globes and vintage dresses, but I don't have the room. My sister collects shoes... she's got over 200 pairs and an extra room to keep them in!

aweseome collection! (we are unofficially collecting vespas in the garage. i may have to park outside this winter ... not kidding!)

Katie said...

I collect craft supplies (mostly fabrics), vintage pyrex, dvds, pressed pennies, and picture matchbooks. Not really a fan of anything that collects dust!

Your typewriters are so incredibly awesome! It reminds me of when my little brother and I had a playhouse behind my grandparents and I would type type type my days away!!

I guess I also collect chairs. And fabric. Fabric to put on my collection of chairs!!

I also have quite a few random little brass animals. Most of them have some unique function - i.e. the nutcracker alligator and seahorse bell. And vintage pottery. And vintage shoes. Oh boy. Better go. Horders is calling...
