Holy Thrift Score, Batman!

Thrifted
So, maybe it felt more exciting than it looks but I went thrifting yesterday. ALL. BY. MYSELF. It was my one and a half hour reward for catching up on the major priorities on my to do list for the last three weeks. There are plenty of things left to catch up on but I needed a breather.

Thrifted
I managed to find this lot, minus the little cowboy boots, plus another pair of shoes and a vintage cardigan, at Red Racks which is run by the Disabled American Veterans. How fitting that I should score so big on Veteran's Day, eh?

Speaking of checking off the to-do list, if you've been waiting on one of my Thought Bubble Chalkboards they've been restocked at Red Velvet Art. They've been in high demand ever since the lovely Ashley Ann shared how much fun her family had with them here, here, and here. Like... they sold out within six hours of her posting about them the first time (Umm...THANKS, ASHLEY!!) and Emma has been getting daily e-mails asking about them. It's the best kind of problem to have and I'm working hard to make sure we can meet the demand through the holidays!

As always, if you've purchased one of my chalkboards from RVA and taken photos with it I'd love to share them on Smile And Wave. I'm saving up for another round of customer show and tell in the following weeks so send your photo(s) to racheldenbow(@)gmail(dot)com to be included.

I owe you a dollhouse post and a felt board tutorial. It's on the list. Promise.

xoxo,
Rachel

No way! I got to go thrifting without my little one yesterday too! I posted about it here: http://agirlandacamera.blogspot.com/2010/11/thrifty-loot.html

I don't think I scored as much as you but I was happy. Oh, and that hanger purchase was inspired by you so thank you very much! :)

Hi Rachel, I've been reading your blog for a very long time but never commented. I'm from Belgium but last year I spent one year in Florida and I also went to thrift shops way too much. Unfortunately I could only take back with me what fitted in my suitcase...
Here in Europe you don't find these kind of things, I mean, you do, but the style is very different. Much more 'old fashioned' in the bad (ugly) sense. So every time you post your treasures I feel a bit at unease :) I might just book a trip to the US some time soon and take two empty suitcases.

Good luck with your thrifting adventures, you have fabulous style!!!

I'm so jealous! I can never find shoes in my size or ones that I like and those are amazing :) way to score fellow thrifter!

Score for sure! I have a serious soft spot for vintage handmade blankets. Someone put alot of time and love into them and they definitely deserve a great home! A question, though...how do you get the thrift store smell out of them. I always have to wash them two or three times, and they still have a faint odor. Is there a trick to it?

ok--this is crazy--what time were you there? b/c I was there about 11 a.m yesterday and fondled that same yellow/white crochet blanket number before putting it back!! I did score a set of kid's science books from the 60's for my 5 yr old though ;) Someday we will run into one another again! And thrifting sans kids is way more fun ;)

MargaretB,

I wash them with Arm-n-Hammer baking soda detergent but have also had to add a little bit of white vinegar to the wash. Sometimes it still takes two washes. If they smell really, really sour, I don't bring them home.

Good luck!

Lexi!

That's so funny! I literally stood there for awhile thinking about it, walked away, and had to go back. In the same vein, I walked away from about three other fabulous things that weren't my size or that I didn't really need so someone else could get excited about them. So, thanks for saving the blanket for me! ;)

I bet those books are beautiful!

thrifting alone is the only way to go! maybe it's weird but i get all aggro and competitive when i go with friends hahaha. if i try to drag my boyfriend he just makes me feel guilty the whole time and rush. i'm now used to my weekly solo trip to my favourite one now and it's pretty much my favourite time of the week!
