Vintage Here, Vintage There: Family Outing!

A New Collaboration
This week's vintage outfit was worn to Cosmic Bowling at a local alley for family night! Check out the zombies below....ooooooh...they glow in the dark!
Zombie Bowling
Brett and I have had this inside joke for a few years about how much of a lie he thinks it is that I say I love bowling. It's one of those things you're supposed to know about your life partner, right? Whether or not they love to bowl? Well, apparently Brett didn't get that feeling the last time we went bowling together ten years ago on one of our very first group outings during our freshman year of college. It was the week where all the girls asked all the guys out and my group of friends all had crushes on a select group of boys so we invited all of them (and a few others for good measure) on a little adventure night around our little college town.

Flash Bowling
There wasn't much to do after 5 p.m. in Shawnee, Oklahoma in the year 2000 (was it really that long ago?) so we got creative. I think we were going to have a bar-b-q at a local park to start things off but around 4 p.m. the heavens opened up and started dumping a month's worth of water. We all left class early and reconvened in my friend's dorm room to freak out and save our night. It involved bowling and pizza in a pay-by-the-hour-motel room. Sounds disgusting, I know, but we were 18 naive college freshman looking for a dry place to hang out and play spoons and murder and we needed to be off campus to make it feel official. Oh, and this was before OBU's student center got a face lift. Sitting on stinky couches and listening to ping-pong in the background is no way to start a relationship. Am I right?

Ruby's First Bowling Alley
Anyway, I don't remember anything about the bowling portion of that night but it was the last time Brett and I had been bowling together. I blame my terrible score on lack of practice. I blame the terrible photos on low light and needing to use my flash. At least we have evidence of this trip in case it's another ten years before we do it again!

I Talk A Big Game
I had Brett take some photos of us outside before we went home for the night. Sebastian really liked his bowling shoes and now wants his own pair. I'm not sure I have anything that goes with neon yellow and pink.

Vintage Here, Vintage There
I'm wearing: thrifted vintage dress found the day before, thrifted vintage cardigan, tights from Target, boots from Nordstrom's Rack.
Sebastian's wearing: thrifted vintage sweater, thrifted Gap slim cut jeans, thrifted shoes.
Ruby's wearing: Thrifted vintage smock, onesie from Target, thrifted jeans, Mary Jane's from my mom.

Vintage Here, Vintage There
I sold Sebastian on this crazy vintage sweater from the 80's by telling him it looked like Optimus Prime and he totally went with it. The sleeves are huge on him so I think I'll take them in a little to make them narrower and he'll grow into the length. The boy doesn't have much vintage so I need to make it work!

Vintage Here, Vintage There
We're late on the jumping trend and apparently need a little practice. Ruby doesn't jump yet so she just flapped her arms and then ran off.

This is my River Dance impression. Or me running off to catch my daughter.

Vintage Here, Vintage There
Bowling night was fun. Sebastian got to use the bumpers and loved that he was beating me for half of the game. Brett and I took turns corralling our little runaway and did lots of high fiving and cheering in between. We ended the night with Starbucks for all and promised not to do it again until Ruby was old enough to ask for her own shoes.

Here are a few fun vintage pieces that would make any bowling trip more exciting! For the grown ups. For the little ones.

Later today Rubyellen and I are going to be sharing how we shop for vintage, what we're willing to spend, what we look for, etc. in a separate post so check back this evening. First, go see what Ruby and her crowd wore for Ben's birthday adventure! They've got spring like weather over there in sunny southern California!

xoxo,
Rachel

It looked like you had a fun time! I love bowling but I can never live with out the bumper on the sides or I will get a gutter ball every time!

Aww, I just love this story. I went to BBC in Sprinfield MO so I understand that need to feel 'official.' Get off campus and all. :)

my favorite part of cosmic bowling is how tan my normally pale skin looks. that alone is worth the price of the game for me!

cute sweater for sebastian-finding vintage for boys is the hardest!

Skyler,

I hear ya! I purposefully gave Ruby a white top so she'd glow a little and I would be able to always see her if she was trying to sneak off into the crowd! ;)

Looks like you had fun! But I can't imagine chasing our toddler around in between bowling. Your comment about Ruby flapping her arms and running off instead of jumping made me laugh out loud!

Aww it looks like you had a terrific time in your vintage duds!

My baby Laney just came over to the computer, pointed up at the screen and said, "baby Ruby." She just loves to sit on my lap and find out what baby Ruby is up to this week :) You have such a precious family!

Bowling!! Can you believe I live with a fellow that doesn't have mad love for this game? I would adore a family bowling night, but he's all too uninterested. Oh well, I'm just going to have to work at infusing my wee girl with a love for the sport of slippery shoes and nacho chips.

Awesome evening! Bowling is super fun! My 6y.o. had a bowling birthday party this year and it was great. Lots of room to play and no messy house to clean up after!
