'The Plan'

This is my attempt at knowing how I'd like to decorate and make purchases for our next home. I need something with a strong sense of style that reflects our family's taste. When you're decorating on a really tight budget, you need a plan so you don't waste money on pieces you don't really like or lose focus of what you really need. I'll be filling it up with images and lists in preparation for the new place.

I found these this weekend at a local antique store. I love Mellimac! I've been collecting the Mellamine that Target started putting out last Spring because I love the idea of a bright, mix and match kitchen. My mom has always had Pyrex in her kitchen so it feels right to have it in mine. Brett and I are planning to move to the Midwest near the beginning of Summer via U-Haul and are hoping to catch an Ikea on the way to load up on a few pieces of furniture in a box. One of the benefits of having moved so often in the last four years is getting to start fresh with furnishings. We've given away and sold most of the furniture we've ever owned every time we've relocated but having a child means doubling the amount of 'necessary' furniture to take with you.

Flickr has been a fabulous source of inspiration for the new place.
A girl can dream or a girl can plan.

More news later. My mind is starting to shut down for the night.

Your design journal is so cute! I love the papers on the studio page. I haven't seen those before. I made myself an inspiration journal not too long ago, and it's been such a help! I take it with me thrifting and to the hardware store, etc. I love decorating on a budget...I think it's forces more creativity! Good luck with your move!

i think there is an ikea in Utah. and, um, colorado is a pretty good pit stop on your way to MO. it is about 12 hrs from your destination - the perfect place to spend the night on your way through. hmmm, now if only you knew someone who lives in denver . . .

Every time you post, I like you more and more!

IKEA is my FAVORITE. Fav-o-rite! If you plan out what you want before you guys leave and where you'll stop, you can use the online feature to see if they have what you want in stock! (Tip: if they have 5 or less of the itmes in stock, the online check will say it's out of stock. You can call and talk to someone who works there and see if they really are out of stock or if they're just low.)

Your idea book rocks! It reminds me of that movie "One Night at McCools." Liv Tyler's character does the same type of thing, but I like your book, with the pretty paper, better!

Hope you guys have a great weekend. :)

Ooooh...that binder has lots of pretties in it already! So, you like the melanine stuff, huh? Might I suggest checking out this linkage:

The whole Loftparty site has some cool stuff, but that French Bull melanine line is something I think you would particularly like. ;0) Got my journal kt yesterday...crossing my fingers for play-time this afternoon!
