Happy Press

Yay!
I was thrilled to have been invited to do a house tour on Apartment Therapy back in September and the day has finally come to see it posted. I'd be lying if I told you I wasn't ridiculously excited. The site has been a major influence and source of reference throughout my decorating process. It was an honor and a pleasure and the comments from readers have been so kind. THANKS, AT!I'm so proud of this girl and all of the determination and hard work that she is putting into making this dream happen. I've been blown away by her before and I think on February 1st, its going to happen again. Yesterday, we had a little adventure in Kansas City that I'll remember for a long, long time. It was so fun to see Silje and where she spends her days at work. We had some yummy sushi, browsed Anthro, UO, and American Apparel, got lost, had bubble tea, did some work, and had a fun drive home. Pictures will follow shortly.Silje taught me how to knit! I'm SO ready to bust out the Christmas gifts now. I've been wanting to make this afghan (shown above) for a few weeks now. I have some cheapo yarn to practice on until I'm proud enough to give something away. I also plan on advancing my crochet skills so that I can turn out one of these pretty girls. It is so YUMMY!What are your Christmas gift plans? Are you making some, most, all of them or buying handmade? Are you cutting back on spending this year or going all out?

Stay cozy warm.
~Rachel

Yay! Apartment Therapy - that's too cool! I'm going to go check it out ASAP! As for Christmas....I'm cutting back big-time; not because of $$ so much but I just want it to be as simple and peaceful as possible. I want to enjoy the pretty decorations, and the food, and my family and sometimes I find the presents just get in the way. (-:

How exciting, Rachel! Love your house, and glad many many others will get to enjoy it now, too.

We are getting all Christmas gifts at the farmer's market this year; soaps, raw honey, jam...it will be lovely for everyone, I'm sure. We are writing a Christmas letter on 100% recycled paper, using recycled envelopes, and I am making everyone a little gift tag out of recycled paper too.

I went to Apartment Therapy and looked at many house tours, and have to say I adore your home and loved it the best out of all of them. You really are good!

I also have my eye on that paint by number horse in your Etsy shop! :)

Keep Shining!

Congrats on being featured on Apartment Therapy! That's so exciting. Your house is so much fun.

I'm giving a lot of handmade gifts (by myself and others)this Christmas. I'm also making ALL of the cards I'll be sending out. It's a big task, but I think it's so much more personal and sweet that way.

Love your home! I'm about to move to (columbia) Missouri from Oregon - good to know there are good people out there too!

Christmas - I'm doing 100% handmade and for as cheap as possible ($150 total) - we are BROKE. I am making needle keepers for embroidery friends, soulemama's gratitude wraps, future girl's dirty/clean girls, dopp kits for the guys, and many a embroidered wall hanging...

congrats Rachel! that is a really awesome feature, your house is great, loved the recent peaks and this is icing!

and yes, so excited for Elsie, she's a superstar.

We do handmade Christmas for everyone in my family, the gifts are more aesthetically pleasing, practical, and of course made with love! It doesn't hurt we save over 50% by doing things this way, too!
We even make our own gift bags *christmas/holiday fabric bags tied with twine and a cute label* to save on the ridiculous expense of wrapping!
Congrats on the AT!!! I love taking peeks of your cute house!

You should be chuffed! Your house is gorgeous and probably my favorite one featured on AT.

I also love your knit and crochet inspiration. If I only had just a teensy bit more time!

So glad that you and Elsie had such a fun day!

My mom has tried to teach me to knit and crochet many times but I just can't get the hang of it. I am very excited though to pick up the blanket she made for us at Christmas time!

For presents I will do a combo of store bought and homemade gifts. I love giving things I made myself and they always seem appreciated :)

omg congratulations! It's remarkable how amazing your house is! It deserves to be featured!

As for my holiday plans... well I'm trying to make ALL of my gifts. that's right== A.L.L. I'm pretty much walking into holiday chaos. haha. But i think they're just going to be more heartfelt and maybe more appreciated after all the time I put into them! I have ideas of calendars, ornaments, quilts, embroidery, and so many more things. :]

I love seeing knitting as I am too impatient to do it myself :( WHooo hoooo for U on AT!!! way cool! :)

Oh Rachel, it sounds like you had a fantastic weekend (from reading elsie's blog as well) and I CAN'T GET OVER how awesome your first tattoo is. It's amazing. good job ;)
So cool that you learned to knit!! I learned how this past month too, but I'm finding it much more challenging than crochet... I have to give it time I guess. A friend and I have also thought about making granny square afgans, I think they're fabulous. I can only imagine how great yours would look, you have fantastic taste in colors.

Our Christmas last year got way way to materialistic for our own good. We "gifted" ourselves pretty much broke, and went way over board. So this year, I plan on making most of the gifts, with the exception of a few books I have in mind for some folk. My wish list is full of etsy lovelies, so it's going to be a great year!
Take care, xo

What an adorable house. Would you mind sharing where you got the beautiful purple purse in the photos?

i bet you finish before me!

Well, thanks everyone!
I felt like the last person in the world to learn how to knit. It has taken me this long because I have never lived close to someone who knew how and I'm not a direction reader. AT ALL.
I think I'll have to check out some of the links to YouTube that Silje has put out so I can learn how to do cables and incorporate more than one color into a blanket.
The thing I love about the idea of knitting most is that you can take it with you so easily. You don't have to have a designated space with a plug to get things started like you do with quilting.

Laura,
The purple purse is from Target. I got it in September, as you can probably guess from that picture.

Thanks, HollySarah!

Congrats on the AT house tour! Love that site. Hopefully in a couple of months we'll FINALLY be in a place where I can set my inner design-goddess free ;)...

For Christmas we're doing a mix of store-bought and handmade. Since this will be our last Stateside Christmas for a few years, we're spending a little more than we would otherwise, but trying to be thrifty nonetheless.

Yay for your house your! I have been eyeing that green afghan for awhile now. I'm not brave enough to try it just yet, though. Right now, I'm working on a couple of scarves for Christmas gifts. I always buy all my gifts, but I'm going to try to do alot of handmade gifts this year. We'll see how it works out...

Nice blanket - I think you'll really enjoy knitting. Let me know if you need any help with the cables. (I'm local in Spfd - met you at the RVA booth during Cider Days)

I'm making almost everything for gifts this year. Part of the reason is because of low funds, but also because I want to give each of them something special. My life has become increasing simplified and I want to keep that going.
