In Search of the Perfect Armoire

I want something made of real wood that has some history and charm for Ruby's lovely things. This is a compilation of styles and shapes to help keep me focused so I don't pay too much for something made of particle board.

And this one.

I've been searching all the local places and checking craigslist.org two or three (five or six) times a day but haven't even come close to something similar. It's my new obsession and I've never had to look so hard for something. I think it'll be even more exciting once I find it, or something that can be turned into what I'm looking for, and I can't wait to fill it with lots of pretty things.

Rachel

When I was little I had a giant wardrobe that was about 150 years old. It was bigger than a double closet and we'd hide and play in there. I don't even think that thing would fit through the doors in the house I have now. Anyway, I loved that wardrobe and your post just brought back happy memories of hours spent inside it-- reading with a flashlight, pretending it was my own portal to Narnia and giggling b/c my brother and sister were looking for me but couldn't find me. Thanks for that, and good luck on your search.

Sara,

Yeah! It totally reminds me of the Narnia stories. I'd love to have one big enough that the both of them could use it to play in every now and then.

Heck, I think I'd like one for my room to use as a fort!

All of those look beautiful. Good luck finding the perfect one.

BTW, I love the name Ruby. Ruby was one of my front-runners when I was pregnant with my second daughter. In the end, we chose Adelaide (my husband liked it better) but I still think about the name Ruby a lot. If.....we were to ever have a 4th baby I would still want the name Ruby!

Enjoy your day.

Tricia,

How funny that Adelaide was one of our front runners that later turned into Adelle and then slid to the number two spot when the name Ruby kept sticking with us. I guess we've got good taste!

There is a Sufjan Stevens song called Adelaide. Have you heard it? ONe of our favorites.

I haven't heard of the song but I am going to look for it right now! Thanks.

The names Adelaide and Ruby are names from our family tree which is why we considered them. Our other kids are also named after family members (Heather and Lauchlan).

Can't wait for the Autumn class to start!

oh my goodness. I have been looking for a beautiful white 'aged' armoire for as long as I can remember. The only ones I ever find are (GORGEOUS) totally out of my price range.
GOOD LUCK!

I've been looking for one too! No luck as of yet, but I did find a great desk that I'm going to use as my sewing table - it's in the garage awaiting a second coat of "innocence" as we speak.

I love all your inspiration pictures. Do you have a local Goodwill, mine (chicagoland) have good furniture that is cheap. Or you could add doors to a bookcase you find. Good luck with the search.

Kristin,

Yeah, we're regulars at the two Goodwills in town and ALL of the other second hand stores.

Except there are two mom and pop shops down on Commercial that I haven't checked yet and will go STRAIGHT TO after I get my work done this morning!

Sometimes Pier 1 Imports has really cool pieces like this. They are pricey though...... Just an idea :)
