Getting Ready For Ruby

I've been working on Ruby's bedding this week even though she won't be sleeping in a crib for a few more months. It helps me to have it finished so I can visualize her space better in order to get most of it in place before she arrives. There are some beautiful crib sets out there but I couldn't get away from the idea of making my own crib sheets from vintage flat sheets. I'm sure it's been done before but its such an easy way to create a beautiful space that won't cost me much at all. I've finished two and have two more in the works and I'll add a few solid colors to keep the stash full. I'm still working on the bed skirt idea but it's low on the priority list.

I dressed up Sebastian's bed to make sure the crib sheet fit and also to see how some of her stuff might look together. He wasn't happy about having to sleep on the pink flowered sheets last night. Not happy at all. They are currently stowed away again and his manly sheets are being replaced.

This little DwellStudio outfit is probably one of my favorites in her closet right now. It's so little! The vintage afghan is from my friend, Angela, and the blanket underneath is a double-sided, flannel receiving blanket that I made. She'll be plenty warm in our drafty house this winter.

I'm not sure we have much room left in there! I've got a smaller bookshelf that I pulled in from my craft studio that will hold all of her changing necessities, baby books, and random grooming supplies. I have pants and shorts in one wire basket, socks and hats in another, and outfits that won't be worn for many months stashed in the back corner. Above the clothing is a space for blankets, burp rags, crib sheets, etc.

I'm planning on making a hanging shoe organizer for the inside of one of the doors to keep them organized and free up some more space on the shelf. We'll see if that happens! The globe collection finally has a place to be gathered, although we still have one in our room and one in the dining room. I've called it quits for now because we're running out of room.

We're still adding to her space but I wanted to share some of the progress we've made. It makes me feel like something has been checked off of the list! Here's a reminder of what this wardrobe looked like before the paint and hardware change. The bottom doors house Sebastian's big toys and piggy bank. He keeps it stashed away in the back so no one finds his train money! The perfect hiding spot for piggy banks AND little boys.

Thanks for sharing all this excitement with our family. We are so excited for this little girl to get here!

xoxo,
Rachel

Oh I love the sheets. That is a great idea. I have made crib sheets before and it's so easy I wonder why people don't do it more often. I LOVE the armoire too. The white with the yellow inside is so stunning. And to see all her clothes lined up is just perfect. Thanks for sharing, I love reading your blog.

I love the sheets. I was never brave enough to try fitted sheets. Quilts, bumper, skirt, yes. But I've never done anything with a gathered stitch. This looks very nice. What a sweet space for your sweet Ruby.

This is a very magical little girls room. She is going to have so much fun in there. I love that yellow crocheted blanket it's perfect. My daughter (who is 21 months) has that striped grandpa sweater from target too. It's one of my favorite fall sweaters for her.

just gorgeous! I also love the idea for the sheets. With a little one on the way myself, I might just have to make good use of that idea... will definately be keeping my eye out for more boyish vintage sheets!

any way you might do a tutorial on crib sheet making? I can sew but am stumped when it comes to making crib sheets! I plan to make the bedding for our little lady arriving in Feb. and would love a little help if you can :) Thanks and congrats on Ruby! I've followed your blog for quite a while now but never said Hi!

I know that everyone has already said it...but this is just the cutest! It is making me wish for a little niece to come along! (since my only married siblings or siblings-in-law are my sister and they just got married this past June, I hopefully have a little while to go!)

Your choice of color and design for Ruby's space is so perfect! Great job!

P.S. Ruby is one of my favorite names! It is my grandma's name and totally timeless!

I love your style and talent! Where did you learn to sew, did you teach yourself or was it handed down from a mother or grandmother? I would love to just pick up fabric and create but don't have such talent!

RachelDenbow said...

Thanks, everyone! Your comments keep me going in these last few weary weeks with a still long to do list!

Who We Are,

My mom taught me to sew and I've picked up a lot through trial and error and reading a few pattern books. You should try it!

that closet is the cutest, as the rest of her room; lucky little girl!!

Hooray for fitted crib sheet tutorial on the way!

I propose a mail order blog baby shower. There are ever so many people who do love to bless. Be honest, what do you still need and want? Understanding that some ppl just love to buy things that you might find hideous, of course. :)

I can send it to the store. Anyone else in? Perhaps Elsie or someone else can even host.

So much fun :)
I don't have any kids of my own, but I have helped my sister SaraSophia prepare for all four of her kids, so I totally get the excitement of waiting for the baby to get here :)

And half the fun is getting the nursery ready!

Hi Rachel, I found pictures of your nursery as I was browsing ohdeedoh and incorporated a photo of it into an inspiration board on my blog for the nursery that I'm working on for our first. I've enjoyed browsing your blog as well. I wanted to name our child Ruby if it was a girl but alas my husband is a programmer and apparently it's a computer programming language. :(

If you would prefer I not use the photo and link to you, please let me know and I'll be happy to take it down. You can view the post here: http://sundrenchedmoments.blogspot.com/2010/01/envisioning-nursery.html

Thanks! Kelly
