Sammy Rose Giveaway

Hello again!
This is Jenny from Dos Family.
Let´s celebrate the week end with a walk down memory lane.
As a child I watched a lot of TV. In Sweden in the early 80s we only had 2 channels to choose from and cartoons was only shown for 15 minutes every day. You Americans might find that to crazy to believe. But it is true! So instead I watched old black and white movies. Matinées.
(UPDATE:my husband objected to this "truth", see comments by Jenny)

But when I was nine something great happened, my sister and brother went to the US (Nebraska) as exchanged students and thanks to them a whole world of TV was revealed to me.They sent us videotapes of shows and when we went to visit I was seduced by the American TV-culture.

The first thing I saw there , while waiting at the airport, was an episode of Night Rider. I was hooked.

And after a while my parents gave in for the pressure and bought cable:
Brady Bunch, Magnum PI and Wrestling on our screen was like a dream come true. There are many TV-moments that I remember so clearly. Like the first episode of Dallas or the last dance of Dirty Dancing.

And now I would love to hear about you favorite TV-moments. What comes to your mind? What special scene has lingered in your mind?

Let me know in the comments section below and don´t forget to include your email. I will draw a winner that will be announced on Nov. 17th.
The price? One product from our shop. What ever the winner wants.

See them all here: http://www.sammyrose.se/
Looking forward to reading your memories.

Hey again, it me Jenny , who wrote this post. Jens ( my husband) says that it is not true that we had 15 minutes everyday of cartoons.

We had 15 minutes every day of "kids shows". Played by actors, with socks on their hands like puppets. We did get to see cartoons on Saturday mornings though. Always the same duo: Tom & Jerry, one episode that lasted for 5 minutes.

That`s the truth!

The TV moment I remember the most is from Saved By the Bell when Jessie got hooked on caffeine pills because she had too much to do. She was "so scared". I still giggle about that overacted scene and for some reason when I think of TV shows that scene is the first to pop into my head. ~Angie

Growing up, my brothers and I lived for Saturday morning cartoons. The one cartoon we lived for was Thunder Cats!! We loved that show! When I'm out shopping and I see different Thunder Cat merchandise it always makes me smile, such awesome memories!

I remember being a kid and watching Jem and the Holograms over and over and over and signing along to all of the songs (Yes! I still have ALL of the cassette tapes that came with the dolls!)
The characters styles and talents and everything- It was amazing!
And yes- I STILL watch that show now <3 It makes my heart smile.

Mine's most likely watching The Poddington Peas a rather English cartoon with the catchiest theme ever! I still remember it now.

wow, i have a lot of tv memories from the 80's...

first one that comes to mind though is the episode of punky brewster where cherry and punky try to increase their breasts by squeezing their arms together and chanting 'i must, i must, i must increase my bust'.

i also love the neighbor from small wonder who would say 'no no no no no no' in her sing songy voice....

and i had the hugest crush on macgyver... and i loved V and the a-team.... thanks to my older brother. :-)

that was fun, thanks for the walk down 80's tv memory lane!

Being a child of the 80's was the best! We watched a lot of evening TV at my babysitter's house that I'm sure my parents wouldn't have been excited about. America's Most Wanted, Cops, and Unsolved Mysteries to name a few. However, the Muppets were my favorite on Saturday mornings!

The first thing that came to mind when asking about my favorite TV memory was the friends episode in which monica, phoebe, and rachel all sat in wedding dresses after rachel cancelled her wedding. Idk why that comes to my mind, maybe since I used to watch Friends with my mom.

I have lots of childhood TV memories - being the child of single mom who worked a lot will do that to you. But one of my favorite memories is of watching Pippi Longstocking - yes, the Swedish version. It was always a huge deal when the movie came on and it didn't matter how late - mom always let me stay up late. Its still one of my all time favorites!

ps - love the Carl stuff! My Swedish/Icelandic honey is named Carl! He would get a laugh out of this.

i loved Saved by the Bell and actually thought that the boys were dreamy despite their acid washed parachute jeans and tucked in neon green shirts. even slater's mullet had a special place in my heart.

Hi! :]

My absolute fave tv moment was TGIF! I remember waiting all week long, and then getting everything ready for Friday night. Making popcorn, sodas, grabbing some Redvines. I felt like such a cool kid watching TGIF, haha. And then afterward everyone would call everyone and we would gossip about all of the drama that had happened that night.

Haha, so much tweenage fun.
Thanks so much for this awesome giveaway!

So many great memories!!!! It's fun to read thru them all!

I clearly remember Friday nights when I'd lie on the couch with my mom (Down by her legs...I was much smaller then, lol). Together, we'd watch Webster and Dallas. I clearly remember the episode of Webster when their house caught fire. I was crying so much.

But Saturday mornings brought the best cartoons and Wrestling! I always loved watching wrestling from a very small age. Good times.

haha, kinda same thing here :)

i live in germany, and i survived the whole 80s AND 90s without american tv-stuff.

BUT we had 3 channels ;)

i only have more channels since i moved out in 2002. then my brother started a revolution for more channels!

the most exciting thing in my tv-past was a german game-show ("wetten dass...?") we watched once a month. hanging out with the family on a saturday night was even more exciting because we were permitted to eat ONE bar of chocolate OR ONE bag of chips - for the four of us, once a month...
yeah - i grew up in a very ecologically sound household! :)

my still favourite tv.moments are around christmas. i love that they still show so much astrid-lindgren-series. every christmas morning i watch "michel aus lönneberger", "lotta aus der krachmacherstraße" or "pippi langstrumpf" with my dad while my mum hurries aound us to get all stuff done :)

cheers

a special tv moment to me, was when i was a kid, i would get home from school and EVERYDAY my grandma would be watching days of our lives. i thought it was so dumb and i went right to my bedroom to watch saved by the bell on my little b & w tv. the summer after my sophomore year of high school, i turned on the tv, and days of our lives was on... i got instantly sucked into it. ever since then, i have watched and that was 10 years ago!! HAHA! it's so silly, but i love that show! and as i got older it was really fun to watch it and talk all about it with my grandma and now that she has passed away, it's a very special memory to me! :)

ha! now thinking back i think i watched too much TV. I remember I lived for sesame street and mr. rogers when I was like 4 and remember grovers 'near and far' skit. Ernie singing the 'rubber ducky' song. Oh and reading rainbow!!!! Then I got older and I remember watching the old batman and robin with the 'pow' and 'bang' signs and watching jake the snake on what was then WWF thanks to my sister. I remember i used to watch jem and tom & jerry. In fifth grade I used to rush home to get my homework done so that I could watch the original power rangers and ghostwriter ( i thought that was real). Then saturday mornings had the best cartoons. recess, pepperann, doug. then in like 2004 i remember watching some cartoon called 'dave the barbarian' ( i don't remember what channel). Now I need to be home before 8 cos that's when 'so you think you can dance' is on followed by 'GLEE'! Also waiting for the last season of 'lost' to come back on. I also watch shows on instant netflix for xbox 360, like 'dr. who', the office' and '30 rock'. I think its official. I DO watch too much TV...hahaha

My favorite TV moments... Too many to choose from!

Some classics:
-when Joey accidentally proposes to Rachel after she gives birth to Ross's baby (in FRIENDS). My favorite scene comes in the next episode when Joey convinces Ross to punch him. Instead of making contact, Ross hits the pole behind Joey's head (because Joey ducks out of the way at the last second). Just hilarious
-When I was a youngster my parents wouldn't get us cable so when we visited my grandparents I was in TV HEAVEN. I would watch hours and hours of Rugrats and Rocko's Modern Life. I also loved Doug.

I love me some TV :)

My very fave TV moment of all time is a no-brainer! On an episode of The Cosby Show (one of the greatest TV shows EVER), the family is celebrating Dr. Huxtable's parents' anniversary, and the family stages a lip-synched performance of a Ray Charles song. When little Rudy comes in with her part ... it's one of the funniest things I've ever seen. And of course, it's impossible for Bill Cosby NOT to be funny. I still crack up every time I watch it.

I recently found a book I wrote about myself in my kindergarten class. We wrote all about ourselves, our family, what we liked, etc. etc. My answer for favorite TV show? The Cosby Show ... followed by my kindergarten take on the exact same scene I described above. So I guess it's been my favorite TV moment for over 20 years now!

Watch it! :]

The two tv moments that stick most in my mind were unfortunately scary ones. My Grandmother did not dislike tv per se, but infinitely preferred movies. Therefore, we watched things like The NeverEnding Story and The Dark Crystal. That said, they were/are some of my favorite movies.

My favorite TV episode comes from Growing Pains. I don't remember the entire episode, but the bit I do recall was during a dream sequence where Kirk Cameron's character was in a pizza parlor making pizza dough in slow motion to the tune of Tiffany's "Coulda Been." My little sister and I thought it was the funniest thing we'd ever seen! To this day if anyone mentions Tiffany or if the song "Coulda Been" comes on somewhere, we instantly think of Kirk Cameron making pizza dough in slow-mo. Definitely my favorite tv moment because I shared it with my sister.

Watching the Simpsons. Both my husband and I still love watching that show and even our little boy loves Homer!

The feeling of watching "Dirty Dancing" as a teenager (MANY times!) springs to mind immediately. Exciting, romantic, goosebumps. Laughing and crying with the characters! Nobody puts Baby in a corner!

My fave tv moment is probably watching "julkalendern" with my mom just before christmas. The tree was lit and we had breakfast in the livingroom infront of the tv.
I still watch it every year but 25 years later I do so with my hubby instead. :)

Ahhh TV, one of my favourite topics.

One of my best memories was when my sister and I were in high school and we became very addicted to the Canadian show "Degrassi Junior High". There was one afternoon we were late catching the bus home and it dropped us about 8 blocks from our house, so we ran all the way home to make it in time for Degrassi.

I'm now mid 30s and own the box set of both Junior and Degrassi High.

The memories of rewatching that was just so... ummm... high school.

My favourite childhood tv moments were some of the christmas shows (on Norwegian television) who where shown once a year. I aways looked forward to that:)
I loved the old Nanrnia moovies, the Disney version of "a Christmas carol", and the absolute favourite "tre nøtter til Askepott", which is a very beautiful version of Cinderella.

i'm an absolute tv fan. it's kind of ridiculous. it gets me a lot of flack because i live in portland where it's cool to be anti-tv.

my favorite tv moment was on Full House when DJ stayed up late so she could watch the Tiffany concert on TV and ended up getting busted.

TGIF on friday night was always my fave.

My favorite TV moments are new ones that involve my 2 year old son. Watching him in his "TV Trance" or dancing to the Wiggles.

My favorite show was definitely The Brady Bunch. I grew up as an only child in a single parent household, so the idea of that many kids, two parents, a housekeeper AND a dog seemed like an absolute daily party to me!

Oh my goodness- my favorite moments of TV were watching reruns of I Love Lucy (classic) and Growing Pains. I had SUCH a crush on Kirk Cameron. I think I might have actually cried when (as a 10 year old) I found out he was married. Oh well!

Over here in Austria there were not many kids' TV programmes when I was little, so I really enjoyed the 5 minutes of children's "goodnight story" every day at 6pm. They showed fairy tales mostly with fun animals - but the greatest of all were the "Barbapaps" - some figures that could transform themselves into any shape they wanted. Every day, I tried to do the same :-))

Jenny, just like you, American TV seduces me. There is a show everyday of the week that I want to watch. When I was a kid we had here in Brazil "the Smurfies" and we would watch "Lessie" or movies by Jerry Lewis. But I feel in love with "Friends" when went to the US as an exchange student in 95.
