WWYD?

I scored this beautiful little number at a flea market in Nixa Thursday morning! I've been wanting one ever since I saw this room at DosFamily. And if you haven't explored at least ten pages of that site, you're going to kick yourself when you finally do. It's inspiration saturation!

I'm going to make seat cushions and pillows for it but I'm thinking about painting it, too. I'd love to paint it an acidy shade of yellow, white, or a mature shade of pink. I know some people cringe at the thought of painting wooden furniture if it's in good shape but I don't think I'd regret it if I did. What would you do?

Doesn't he look helpful? He was being really helpful. I had to leave it at the shop since we didn't have any trunk room and I can't wait to bring it home! I've already got a little spot picked out for it in my studio.

I also picked up a vintage ottoman that had seen better days for $2.00 that is going to get reupholstered. I love having little projects in the works!

xoxo,
Rachel

paint, paint, paint. l never regret painting. It can always be changed (stripped, or painted a different color). Nothing is permanent.

I absolutely ADORE painted furniture. Each painted piece makes me feel a bit closer to being the "funky" character in a movie.

paint it!! and then be sure to post a photo of it finished!

i have an old wood toy chest, that my uncle made for my siblings and i when i was a child. my daughter has been using it for 13 years, so it has seen better days. i am planning on painting it a lovely shade of blue sometime soon. thanks for more inspiration! <3

i vote mustard yellow
or sweet turquoise!
:)

can't wait to see what you do!

Paint! I have no problem painting wood, even if it's in good condition. I always end up loving it, and I know I can always repaint it or even strip and stain it.

And I'd definitely go for the yellow! :)

oh man, i'm outnumbered!
i'm not opposed to painting wood, but i think since you're going to make cushions and pillows (in bright prints, i assume) it could look great as it is, at least for a little while. and you could always paint it later.

but that's just what i'd do :)

I just saw an orange front door, and I totally have orange on the brain. And as far as I am concerned, no piece of regular hardwood (not talking about a super fancy birdseye or striped hickory or a zebra maple, or something like that) was ever offended by being painted. But I am also loving the color of pink in the little dress hanging behind you in your My Story ad on your left sidebar. Wow, that took a long time to say. That's such a great pink! But orange... hmmmmm.

Paint it! I'm on a light grey kick... so if it were mine it'd be that color with plenty of color in the cushions and pillows to liven it up! I prefer more neutral color furniture... that a way if you ever decide on new cushions or pillows you have a base color to work with that you can mix with anything. I hope that doesn't make me too boring! Ha. Whatever you decide, I'm sure it'll look wonderful! Everything else in your home does. :)

Well I just (a few months back but it seems like I do everything yesterday) painted our wooden dining table white and now there is no stopping me.
It lightens and brightens and the good news is that when you get sick of it....out comes the sander.
You go girl! Get that brush!

I don't think I would paint it. But I would make some of those really nice ruffly cushions that tie in the back. They would look super cute lined up against the back of the bench tied into the slats. :)

Paint it, don't think twice just paint :)

I love it- PAINT IT:) I think yellow is a good idea!

Jingle said...

It needs paint!!! From the photos of your home that I've seen here, I think it will look a lot better and suit your style better if you paint it. I like the idea of a yellow, but I can't deny that I saw turquoise as soon as my eyes met that bench! I'm a red girl in my home, but for some reason it seems to be BEGGING for turquoise paint! LOL!

Awesome finds. I say if you want to paint it, paint it. I found my first piece of wooden furniture that I will be okay with painting and I'm so excited. Let us know how your projects work out! :D Kudos to your little one for being such a great helper! :)

Paint! The brighter and more colorful the better. You can always repaint if you don't like it. What an amazing find!

i say go for it! the beauty of wood is that you an paint it and then sand it and re-stain it if you really want to.

yes, paint. painting some sort of pattern or artwork would be pretty. nothing folksy, although that has it's place, but a little psychodelic? like a comic. polka dots would be pretty but hard. yellow and green?

acid yellow!

Robin. said...

if it were me... i would leave the wood as is, but make a beautiful seat cushion for it and add pillows. the bench itself would remain timeless and the look could be changed with new fabrics and pillows. have fun whatever you decide! what a great find :o)

Thank you so much for stopping by my blog! hope your weekend is GREAT!!

I looove paint, but my husband doesn't let me paint anything wood that's in good condition. It makes me so sad! So, paint away my friend, the brighter the better! I'll live vicariously through you until he relaxes the "no paint" rule.

Paint it!

My votes on yellow.

You can never go wrong with yellow, especially with springtime weather!

Lexi said...

Ah! I live in Nixa. We were so close :) And I vote paint. If you totally hated it you could strip it back down, right?

Lori Danelle said...

I'm going with the masses: Paint it.

Right now it's nice, but generic. Gotta make it yours & unique.

Ashley said...

paint it! you won't regret it. :)

I love the yellow idea! It'll look great painted.

Question: Will you reupholster the ottoman yourself?

Kristen said...

Maybe you could post a little tutorial about reupholstering furniture? I've always been curious but never had the you-know-whats to actually go through with it.

Kristen said...

Oh yeah, and definitely paint the bench! =)

Paint and then black glaze... I just saw a great how to and some adorable furniture at all things thrifty. But it really depends on the style of your room of course. Good luck!

paint it! And maybe decoupage the seat with some modge podge? just a small lil layer of neat images? By the way love the alliteration: inspiration saturation! Brilliant!

joyce rodli said...

Go ahead and paint but leave back wooden rungs and side rungs alone.I guess it would depend on the color or colors you use to begin with.
White or even a darker butterstotch or maybe a softer light to mid butter yellow?

Anonymous said...

hhmm you could have fun painting designs all over. or i personally like naural wood look. and then make some funky cussions for it. you do have really nice fabric.

Anonymous said...

What an awesome find! I would go with yellow!

I would paint it! I was so scared to paint an awesome little side table I found, but I'm so glad I did! I posted a blog entry with the before and afters and some links to helpful furniture-painting tips! Maybe it would help you in your adventure (if you decide to paint that is). Besides, you can always re-stain it : )
