The First Day Of Preschool or The Longest Day Of My Life

Sebastian is off to preschool this morning with his new red backpack, his new red cot blanket, and his new red WITH TRACTORS pillow. (I'm writing this early in the morning having just finished sewing together his new red cot blanket and red WITH TRACTORS pillow so we haven't actually sent him out into the world on his own just yet.)

I'm talking myself into thinking about all of the things I will be able to do with my days when Ruby is napping (she takes some long ones!) but I'm pretty sure tomorrow will be spent wondering if he's wandered out of the bathroom with his underwear around his ankles looking for help with pulling them back up, or if he'll go hungry because the lunch options won't include any of the FIVE things he will actually eat, or what the teacher will think she heard when what he actually said was F.R.A.G.O. because his dad just got back from Army camp and we've been using that term a lot.

I know, he'll be fine. Right? And I'll be the one crying, right? I'm so proud of my son and how excited he is about trying something so new and unknown and can't wait to hear how it went. And I'm really hoping he won't be disappointed when he realizes he gets to do it again and again for about 18 more years.

xoxo,
Rachel

First and foremost...cutest picture EVER!!!

He'll do great on his new adventure...even at lunch. (My oldest suddenly started liking foods she didn't before after watching her classmates eat them.)His Mama prepared him well, and hey, this is what it is all about...getting them ready. Doesn't make it any easier though...

Can't wait to hear the stories he has to tell when he gets home...that was always my favorite part : )

{A lot of pre-school/Kindergarten moms are going to
"Boo hoo/Yoo hoo" breakfasts tomorrow. So funny! Mixed emotions FOR SURE...}

He is so adorable!

Don't worry (although I still worry) he will be fine...I have to tell myself that everyday.

I walked home from dropping Elton at Kindy and resembled Ben Stiller from There's Something About Mary. Ted...you forgot your keys! I was a crying fool.
I couldn't help it.
It's not easy letting go.

What a cutie pie you have there. I remember sending my son off to school for the first time, I was terrified. We made it through those early years and are embarking on the teen years, once again I am terrified :)

Love your blog, can't wait to hear how the first day went

Awwwwww! First off, your son is so adorable! He's not going to have a hard time in school at all! I'm sure all the kids will want to be his friend, and he'll talk proudly of his amazing mother!

He is too adorable! You'll do fine and so will he. There will be a hint of sadness but more happiness and pride for him than anything. Plus you'll get great school stories from him everyday now!

My oldest will be starting his second year of preschool - meaning his LAST year before KINDERGARTEN?? Where have I been?? How did this happen? Eeek! I think I'll be ok the first day, it's going to be the last day that I'll fall apart. :D

Awww, that pic of Sebastian is the cutest yet Rachel! You are right...he will be fine. And you will be fine, even if a little teary. Be proud of him, encourage him, and love him...as you already do :)

When my son Lachlan went off to school. I was initially feeling pretty lost without him at home. Lili was going to kindy a couple days a week, but the rest of the time she was home. I cherished those two years of just me and her before she started school. It was time I didn't get with her up until then because it was always her and Lachie, but until she was born Lachie and I did have that mother and son time together to bond.

Anyway, all the crafting, shopping, and playing together that Lili and I had did our mother/daughter relationship the world of good. She is my little side-kick now, my little mate, and I will always cherish that. I am sure that you and Ruby will go through the same as she grows. And yes, you won't know yourself with all of that free time when Ruby has a snooze...just make the most of it while it lasts :)

Good luck...thinking of you all!

Hug for you Mummy.
The Netherlands, America, we are all the same awful crying, waving, kissing mums.
Wish you all the best, as you know: within a few weeks ;) you are finally that far to use your free time. And then you get sick, or Ruby's naps get shorter, or he will have a little normal crisis, but huuuuuge in mommy's heads and again gone your free hours.
It's great to be a parent.

Rachel,

As someone that works in a preschool, don't worry about what Sebastian may do. We have seen IT ALL and love preschoolers just the way that they are! Preschool is all about learning through play and experiencing new things! Let us know how he likes it!

You're a strong woman, even if you cry when you drop your little man off at his first day. I'm doing the same thing on September 8th and I'm still a wreck. I'm totally worried about my little man wondering around with no one to help pull up his "big boy" underwear. But I'm also looking forward to having some time to work (even though my little baby girl doesn't nap at all). Good luck sweetie! Let us know how it goes! :)

Happy First day of school Sebastian.
He will do great Rachel but I cannot tell a lie. It never gets easier with first days of...well anything. Today was my kids first day of summer daycamp (I've been a stay at home Mom all of their lives) and I cried all the way home after dropping them off. Now I'm counting down the minutes until pickup. I'm sure you are feeling the same way. (((HUGS))) to you! I can't wait to hear how it went.

he's gonna love it! and so will you. just give it a day or two and then you'll both be wondering what you ever did before school days.

So cute! And I know just how you feel, too... I cry every time we start something new, and my littles usually just wave over their shoulder as they dash for something new and exciting. I tell myself it's perfectly normal! And once you get over the initial shock, I'm sure you and Miss Ruby will have some wonderful girl time! Plus you will get to hear all his amazing stories when he gets home~ those are my favorite!

Awe, I love this post! He looks so charming. My son is 15 months and I already tear up thinking about these first days for him. Good luck little man!

I hear ya sister and it doesn't really get easier. I just put a picture of my 2 going into school this morning (grades 1 and 5) and my first grader was so nervous at her new school. I was tearing up, so I'm feeling you! It'll be fine though, he'll love it and you'll get to have some alone time with Ruby.

My cute little nephew just went to his first day of 1st grade today, and even though he's just my nephew, I feel so nervous for him, too! How exciting for the littles ones, though, to break out and try so many new and exciting things!

Rubyellen said...

we are probably going to homeschool, so i won't be getting this exact feeling. but maybe it is good, cause sending them off makes me really nervous!

sebastian is so cute! you are gonna have to keep the girls away from him on the playground!

Love the photo! Clare is off to pre-school next week and I was soooo excited to have the time but as it gets closer, I'm dreading it a little. Hopefully they love it so much that we can't help but be happy for them. If she hates it, I will be so sad to send her off.

My big fear... that she will be the only one still in diapers at three and get made fun of. : (
