Projects, Projects Everywhere

Stalled Project

I started this little project to decompress from a few lengthy tutorials in a row over at Home Ec. and Small Craft earlier this month because it didn't involve sewing anything. It's also easy to do whilst catching up on Design Star on Hulu! I plan on turning it into this cute hat that Elsie made last year for Ruby as she has no hair to keep her warm. I also need to find that girl some socks and shoes because she's been barefoot for months and those toes are going to start getting chilly! I haven't made any more progress on the moccasins but haven't lost my enthusiasm and I have it in good faith that a certain friend has been perfecting her mini moccasin template lately. And I've seen a sneak peek of a sample. And they are cute as can be!

I've tried to get back to the crochet project a few times only to remember my hook is missing after an incident involving a certain four-year-old mindlessly unraveling row after row as he watched Thundercats with his daddy one afternoon. I came around the corner and shouted, "What are you doing!" and they both looked surprised that it was happening. That'll teach me to keep my stuff laying around for other eager fingers to work on.

So, do you have any favorite suggestions for handmade (and warm and slightly practical) shoes for little ones on Etsy that you love? There are a ton to pretty shoes to choose from but I'm most interested in hearing real reviews of things you've used and loved. Thanks in advance and I'll be sure to share if we go with any.

xoxo,
Rachel

I have had that same innocent unraveling experience!! Not fun...

And as for baby shoes, I would love for you to check out my shop~ most are lined with flannel to keep toes nice and warm, and they have been worn, tested and loved by many, including my own wee ones. I'm happy to say that my little ones never wiggled them off, even once! http://2sweetthings.bigcartel.com

Happy hunting, there are tons of adorable shoes out there!

Hahaha, that is SO cute (the unraveling), but I understand your frustration!

Oh that scarf looks so cozy. Would you be able to share what the crochet stitch is. It looks knitted but with the crochet hook? :) Love it.

We love Woolybaby's shoes - so toasty! They are made from reclaimed sweaters and have beautiful leather soles & toes.

I love making these shoes:

I've made dozens of pairs over the last few years for my kids and as gifts. Super easy and they stay on well. I found it easy to adjust the pattern size too. I bought nonslip grip and added to the bottom when they were for a stander/walker.

That photo makes me happy - first of all for the fact that it is green yarn (my favorite color AND favorite craft supply of the moment), and secondly because I'm learning how to crochet. There is something so calming about the motion of the needle, don't you think? Right now I can only make a chain though - I have a ways to go. :)

i bought my son a pair from this fantastic lady: http://www.etsy.com/shop/momsblankies
they have an awesome leather sole, but the rest is made of fabric so i don't know how practical they would be for outside. we live in a drafty old house, so my son uses them as slippers to keep his little toes warm which they work perfect for!

Oh! That sucks way too much with your Crochet!

I make and sell Booties (and when you buy a pair, I also make another pair for a child in Africa), check out my website www.moo2.co.nz/stitchafrica

:) Not sure if thats what your after for Ruby, or something more supportive for her travelling feet! :)

I feel as though I have projects everywhere also!! Sometimes I spend more time thinking about them than actually working on them...oops.

I got my little one some wool mary janes from the Mani-Mina shop on etsy and we just loved them. It doesn't look like she has any in her shop right now but I'm sure you could ask!
