Family Adventures

Photobucket
Brett was driving us all home from a fun day of visiting friends and thrifting when I looked up from my notebook and saw a random old building that looked accessible from the next exit. I had to assure Sebastian as we were driving down an overgrown gravel road that the policemen probably weren't going to come get us and even if they did, they'd just tell us to leave. He was okay with that.

We were almost driving through four foot weeds by the time we got to the old store but the boys jumped out and we were exploring in no time. Ruby was too little to let loose among such a ruinous scene but we did let her explore a little on the rocks.

Photobucket
Sebastian spent the whole time throwing rocks against the outer wall and pretending he was Optimus Prime.

Photobucket
It was full of broken tiles, empty jars, random personal items like a teddy bear and a shoe and the roof had caved in on one end. The paint was peeling and revealed a few different shades of blue. The sun was setting and it was all a little dreamy.

Family adventures are the best.

My dad was always the one pushing the boundaries when we'd go exploring and I was the one that had to fight the nervous feeling that I was going to get in trouble. This adventure reminded me of something we would've done as kids.

Do you think twice about venturing into uncertain situations or just go for it? Had any adventures of your own lately?

xoxo,
Rachel

This is so sweet! I remember doing the same thing as a kid with my dad. My mom always waited in the car.... These are the memories that stick, in the end. The unplanned ones.
I love reading about all of your adventures, your blog is so fun to read! :)

Oh, lovely! :) Totally makes me want to venture out into the unknown, somewhere...he he. How lovely is that peeling paint? Gorgeous! I used to be the nervous kid, and in many ways still am - but I'm becoming much more adventuresome with age, I think. :)

Beautiful! My friends and I used to explore a former cottage hospital when we were little, but there doesn't seem to be anything accessible around here - I'd love to go exploring again!

I love family adventures. My husband and I always venture into new places to explore. I can't wait to share it with the little one sitting in my belly!

When my boyfriend and me go exploring I am always the one going please, no. not any farther. I get so anxiety ridden that something bad will happen its awful! my boyfriend always pushes me to my limits though! Your adventure looked like so much fun!

A big part of my job is exploring abandoned places (LONG abandoned - as in, two thousand years!). The only thing that makes me nervous is when someone is obviously living in a ruin. I keep a careful eye out for mattresses and personal items that seem to be in use. If I see signs of someone living there, I get out, FAST. That type of situation can get really dangerous.

Your photos are lovely! It looks like you had a perfect family adventure. :)

I love taking random little adventures. The more off the beaten trail, the better. Looks like you guys had fun exploring!

ohhh...I do this all the time...timidly..but with camera in hand..not ever sure what will be in those buildings(like someone you don't need to meet) these places catch my eye as I'm driving..takes a couple of drivebys and then I park , run , snap, run and jump back in the car...alot of adrenaline but I have gotten some very cool pictures. I love exploring old buildings!

I was always the one who felt a little nervous about adventures like that. As I get older I try to embrace it and just go with it. Thanks for sharing!

How fun! I love doing things like this! My husband is not so keen on these types of adventures, however! But somehow, I always manage to sweet talk him into hiking into that old abandoned building- even if the sign says keep out :)

Really fun! I'm a rule follower, but I love adventures; my husband is a rule breaker and needs help discovering the secret places. We're a good team when it comes to exploring because we push each other. :)

Toni,

haha! You're the best!

I'm not sure we got a really good shot of this one. We were having so much fun they were either blurry or too dark inside. I'll wear this dress again soon because it's perfect for Spring! Maybe we can wish it here sooner!

I'm new to your blog, this is the first time I've seen it. I've often wanted to stop at random abandoned buildings but I've never been able to convince anyone to go with me! We should be friends. I would love to go on these adventures with you. :)

What an amazing set of photos! I've had the best adventures lately when I've called people up at the last minute, when things are unplanned. It's definitely fun to be spontaneous!

i love old abandoned buildings. i am kind of obsessed with them actually. exploring them is such a magical (rebellious) feeling! I like to wonder about what they once were and the people who inhabited them.

That is fun to explore... same time wondering what are in the history with the places.

I remember as a kid just going into unknown places a lot with my older brothers, to the woods where we found abandoned bikes and little houses, shoes and little caves to across the street at the cemetery, I never thought twice about jumping fences into places that I could get hurt or get caught, I always loved the rush and risk of danger, and I still do. I still jump fences and go into places I am not suppose to, all for the fun!

You have an adorable family!
I live in Australia and in January I climbed the Sydney Harbor Bridge! That was a FANTASTIC adventure and I encourage anyone that can to do it!!

You brave lady! I'd be chiming in with S - all worried about surprise police visits. In the summer when I was very pregnant my guy tried to take me to an abandoned quarry for a swim. He drove 40 minutes out of town, but as soon as I saw the no trespassing sign I was out of there! He tried to tell me that everyone visits that place for a swim but there was no way he was getting me in there.

I love to explore old houses and buildings...my husband says one day I will get arrested...haha. I always wondered what the feeling was after an adventure like this...............dreamy is the perfect word!!
