Home Tour Sneak Peek

Photobucket
I'm pretty close to being ready to share pictures of our new place! There were some things that just weren't ready and didn't come together until recently but I'm so glad that I waited for inspiration to hit instead of trying to force this and that. One of the things that I'm reminded of every time I have to set up a space is that I need to do what makes us happiest and not what I think I should do.

When it comes to decorating your space, often times there's a little voice in the back of your head that tells you you need this or that in place in order for it to be acceptable or because that's how the rooms in certain box stores make it look. However, I'm always the most excited when things come together in unexpected or unconventional ways.

Have you ever had things set up in your home but it just didn't feel quite right until you tried something else? Do you have a favorite space?

Stay tuned for photos next week!

xoxo,
Rachel

I definitely understand what you are talking about. We've lived in our "new" home for almost a year and a half now, and I still haven't finished getting things to "feel just right". But it's coming together gradually. This spring/summer's project is the master bedroom. That seems to be the one place in our house that continually gets overlooked, but it's my favorite place to relax so I won't tolerate neglecting it any longer. Loved the sneak peek and can't wait to see what else your creative mind has come up with!

I can't wait to see your little dwelling. I've been renting for some time now and can't wait until I own something of my own. When that happens I'll magically turn into Martha Stewart and put together something fancy.

I totally agree! Every time I tried to "force" something, I've regretted it! I can't wait to see the rest of your home tour; your decor is so inspiring to me!

Yours,
Ashley

I have been staring at the white walls in my house for almost a year now and haven't done anything with them because I'm stuck between want and should. So, thank you for the advice about doing what you like instead of what you think you should.

I totally do that. I have three blank walls in my home and haven't put anything up yet because I haven't found that "perfect" piece yet. And because there's nothing there, it's not complete. Anywoo, can't wait to see what you've came up with :)

I love that you posted this, because I feel like in a couple of our rooms I've been trying to rush and "force it." This was a great reminder to just follow my own taste and take it slow, as inspiration comes. As always, great post. Thanks Rachel! :)

ps. Can't wait to see your home tour.

xoxo my friend!

I am always tinkering with things in our house - rearranging and changing things up until it feels 'right' to us. It's taken years for some rooms, but I'm ok with that. ;)

Yes, my dining room which first served as a playroom and now as an art studio.

My favorite space is the view from our bedroom window into our little garden. We have a big garden out the back (we are lucky to live on a bush acre with a creek) but this little garden is hidden. On the side of our home, with a tree canopy and a rock wall with moss. I adore it. It's so quiet and peaceful. Like a secret garden.
I take myself off to that place if I need a 5 minute breather.
I think your wall looks so beautiful and you are so right. If you are trying to decorate (even craft or dress yourself!) for others it's never going to feel like you.
Take every one out of the equation and you will get it right every single time. Plus it's amazing that that feeling of pressure just goes away and you really enjoy it.
You could never get it wrong anyway.

Yes, yes, and yes. I am currently in the middle of a total house transformation. This included moving our two girls together so we could then have a gigantic family/play room. So I totally get the "doesn't have to be like the magazines". I struggle with that alot too. I have just recently decided (after 7 years of being in the same house) that it needs to work for our family not look like a target display;} Can't wait to see photos of the new place!!

I'm excited to see what you have to share with us Rachel. We are fixing up an older home, have lived here for 5 years and are just now figuring out what our style is and how we want things to be. Thank you for sharing some home inspirations. The Mr. & I love them.

I'm having a similar dilemma now. I just moved from a 2 room apartment into a 7 room apartment and I have no idea how to configure my stuff! I used to have the placement of everything down to an exact science because I was used to cramming it all in tiny spaces. It might take me awhile but I'm excited for when my new home finally takes shape, although I am getting really antsy about hanging artwork- but I know I'll end up moving it so I haven't.

my youngest daughters shared room is probably the most "finsihed" in our house - I feel happy when I go in there, and I feel like I am starting to really like my living room..there is just one wall that I don't quite know what to do with

Can't wait! From all the sneak peeks you really have a talent.

Oooh! Can't wait to see your lovely place. I'm needing inspiration to make my home feel like a home instead of a workspace.

Definitely! I completely re-arranged all the furniture in my room three times when I moved in, and when I recently got the rest of my stuff out of storage, I re-arranged the kitchen and the living room, too! It really knocks your energy off if your space doesn't feel right.
