Chill-Out, Man!

Uggghhh. Totally feeling lame.

I think I'm about to menstruate. Yes, I said menstruate.

So, I woke up yesterday and watched yet another 40 minutes of (the same) Elmo's World, did NOT go jogging, spent some fabulous time outside in the backyard with my journal, and stayed in my 'morning clothes' until 3:30 p.m. when Brett got home from subbing and I was able to take a shower in peace before tutoring. Bumming around in my 'morning clothes' puts me in a bad mood. Answering the door in my 'morning clothes' usually makes me feel awkward. So, when the salesman knocked around lunch time, I was in no condition to stand in my 'morning clothes' with a diaper clad toddler tugging my arm to get back to Elmo's World. He said he wanted my help in getting points to win a trip to some exotic location. I told him I wasn't interested in helping him win a vacation to said exotic location. I just wanted to get back to my pissy morning. I regretted being so rude as I watched him walk down the driveway, shaking his head and probably wondering if he could get away with tagging our fence. (Sorry, Sebastian has already claimed that canvas!)

The rest of the afternoon and evening just felt forced as far as work goes. Its hard to be creative when you're about to menstruate. Anyone? Anyone? Sebastian pooped in the bath tub and will probably wet the crib for the fourth night in a row despite his super absorbent, overnight diaper. I will probably regret staying up a little too late again when its time to roll out of bed in the morning, find the coffee, and insert the worn-out, Elmo DVD while I check out how many comments I have on my blog.
Glam-or-ous! So leave me a comment or I'll probably yell at another salesman.

Oh Rachel...I do believe we were twins, separated at birth. (Except you got the skinny, good hair genes and I got the stocky, stringy hair genes.) Bob, as I like to call my cycle, should be gone tomorrow, so I can feel your pain. Literally. I didn't take any Midol today.

oh yes. I feel your pain. I only wish I could be grumpy to salespeople. we only get door to do religious solicitors.
Also, bold word choice. Keep your chin up girl, your peeps got your back. :)

oh, see, i really prefer to go TO the salespeople . . . like, for example, at a mall . . . and take out my crankiness on them there. it leaves me feeling like a bitter menstrual b*tch, but at least i feel like i'm an in charge menstrual b*tch.
plus, we really just get door to door do-gooders here in denver . . . save the environment. sponsor the trauma victim. there is nothing worse than looking a rape victim advocate in the eye through the glass front door and refusing to even get off the couch - just shaking your head no. seriously. what is wrong with me sometimes? :)

you are too funny, i love the "what up" attitude of this photo. :)
for me, not only do i feel cranky and/or depressed the day before my period, sometimes it's like I'm a completely different person. And there's nothing worse than trying to be creative when it's forced and you're not in the mood.
i hope today is better! sending you some chill-out vibes.

Being hormotional sucks, doesn't it? I'm right there with ya, sista! I think my family wants to disown me at this point, but then who would cook them dinner and wash their underware? Pass the midol (or the wine), please.

TOTALLY know how you feel, had one of those days myself last Sunday...at church none the less. I had to apologize to my husband for some of the things I said. Isn't it great that it does go away, and life feels all new and fresh and sweet again...it only takes a few miserable days!!

I always feel grumpy when I stay in my 'morning clothes' too long. That and my glasses - need my contact lens (just one - weird, I know!) in or I feel gross.
And, as far as the guy at the door goes... that would have rubbed me the wrong way too. I usually don't answer the door but I have been known to be 'short' - extremely 'short' with tele-marketers. Why do they call ALL the time?
Hang in there. Treat yourself to something little that you like - even if it's just a coffee and a chocolate bar - that helps me with PMS!!

Sounds exactly like my day! Ugh...sometimes being the mom of a toddler gets rough! :)

Ugh...I so know how you feel. I'm pregnant with twins and sleeping on our couch now cuz the bed is too uncomfortable. Our front door has a clear view of the sofa and the past two days the UPS man has seen me in all my glory laying there, no make-up, nasty hair, and in my "morning clothes"...not my best look. {{HUGS}}

So sorry for the crappy day. Sometimes it seems we have to have those days just to get it out of our system. I hope today is much better. It's Friday, so it has to be better, right? Have a wonderful weekend!

Hang in there (and know that you're not alone)!

I too am about to menstruate. can't believe I wish it would just get started and get done already but I'm tired of this "before the period actually starts I get crazy, while I'm on my period I'm normal" thing that I do. pretty sure my husband is too.

your post could not have come at a more perfect time, because other than the fact that I don't have a child and so can't possibly feel your pain there, everything else is spot on. ESPECIALLY the morning clothes bit.

now I'm going to force myself to go shower and get dressed for the day. maybe even do my hair instead of sporting a half wet bun....
:)

LOLLLLL love the narration of your day!!!

Days like this is when you look through the peep hole and don't answer the door. Days like this is when you start wishing you were on that exotic vacation instead of tryin to help someone else get it. Days like this is when you really need to take a minute and just breathe. Hope the next day is better.

We all have bad days! At least we can laugh them off when their gone... the packing around here has been bumming me out too! Check out my last blog post....

Rachel, you make me laugh. I love my life as much as you do with my little girl and coming on your blog everyday is chicken soup for my soul.(Even though i don't actually like chicken soup ...but that's not the point!!)You are an inspiration even when it is a post like that! Because it's nice to know that we all have those days!

By the way, i want to buy my first sewing machine to learn how to sew and make a few basic projects and crafting stuff. What do you recommend?

Tracey ;) from England xx

um...maybe we should meet upon Monday...heheh

Leigh-Ann said...

on the other hand...you look super hot in that photo.

maybe you should rent out said poops in water child and go door to door and win exotic vacation to canada. we'll cync cycles, menstrate together and eat lots of lollipops and icecream sandwiches. watching immense amounts of dr phil and what not to wear with a daily episode of wheel of fortune. i have no kids. we'll put on *fresh* morning clothes and perhaps burp. and then go out at night and live it up. lol. what a dream vacation...haha. and to make it exotic, we'll eat pineapple or order fancy drinks with sugar around the rim.

hugs rachel.

you have great bone structure too.
go scream by yourself. let out that frustration. and then dance.

mwah!

lol. i'm so tired. i shouldn't even post this ramble...but maybe it'll make you giggle.

Erin Conrad said...

crap, that made me laugh! not at your pain of course, but just picturing the entire story b/c you described so perfectly exactly how that once a month monster makes us feel. hope today is better!

Michelle said...

Ack....oh no!! At least you do better than me and don't hide behind the peep hole at those salesmen..hah. =) Hope the weekend looks up!!

Best entry... ever?!

I forgot to take take two of my "active" pills last month so I had to "skip" my period last montha nd start a new pack. I've been spotting for the last two weeks, crying my eyes out, clawing my Hub's eyes out and as a special bonus, I get to start my "real" period next week.

Your post was like a group hug that I so desperatly needed.

On the plus side, the extra-strength Midol that I live off of was buy one, get one free! Gotta love that.

Have you though about getting some of those blue pad-sheet things that they have at the hospital to put under Seb? That way even if he does leak, it'll catch on the pad. Just an idea.

Have a good rest-of-the day!

Tina said...

yuck....nothing like that oh so lovely time of the month. i so get it. hopefully you're doing a little better today and be deliciously creative by tomorrow.

Just ask my best friend who kindly listens to me whinge every month before my cycle begins - I always tell her I can't scrap or create anymore, it just goes out the window and I feel miserable. Thankfully it comes back again - yay. Here's hoping for dry beds and sunshiny days for you. x Janelle

Hi Rachel,

I just found your blog thru Kara's. And thought Id have a little bit of a blog-stalk and read thru ur recent posts...

I do this internet surfing as I sit here in my morning clothes, listening to (attempting not to watch) Dora the Explorer for the 4th time this morning, after changing my daughters bed sheets and clothes the 3rd time in the last week, because apparently her nappies aren't as absorbant as the say they are.?!?!
I am sitting here, thinking about how I should be doing something, like cleaning or creating, or scrapping or planning for the holiday I go on in 4 days. But no, I sit here marvelling at others creativeness (is that a word!?), but you honestly don't know how nice it was to read that post ... Other people have days like me too, I am not the only one ... I am Normal lol As normal as can be.

love your honest-to-goodness post.... have enjoyed reading your blog and admiring your creations. i think that you are so talented, and most probably a really fabulously beautiful soul. i guess hormones seem to have a life of its own, and can get really overwhelming. i like what you said about difficulty being creative, before menstruation. made me realise why i find making things a chore during the pre-menstrual peroid. after that, everything looks and feels more beautiful.

Holly said...

Well, you can look at one of two ways...you're either a much nicer person than I am because you actually answered the door in the first place. I usually look out the peep-hole, and if I don't see a familiar face...you no get the open door. I can't tell you how many times the same Kirby salesman has come a knockin' on my door...or the guy selling steaks from the bed of his truck. What's that about anyway? Or, you can look at it this way...you are a way cooler person than I am (with a much bigger set of cajones). Because if one of those gus DOES somehow manage to get me to open the door...I always buy whatever there hawking. I'm a sucker like that. I need to learn how to say no. So either way you look at it, you win in my book! :0)

Bwahaha! Okay Rachel...I do believe I have found my long lost sister. Bwahaha! I have had so many days like this I can't even bear to blog about it. Then again that means I am not keeping it real eh?
