Colors In Our Home

I just got my Japanese tape in the mail today and the colors are so delicious I could just stick tape randomly to the walls of my house. In fact...I think I will.

This yellow beauty has finally found a home on my workbench in my newly organized studio. She is a working model but mostly I just like looking at her and how nicely her color fits with my decor.

This little family of globes sits atop Ruby's wardrobe in my kids' shared room. I cropped the image so you couldn't see the orange and black soccer ball that I found stuck up there while taking this photo.

Ahhh...the inspiration wall. I got my Urban Outfitters catalog in the mail just in time to freshen things up a bit in anticipation of warmer weather. I'm in love with the minty blue/green in combination with floral prints, pinks, and lavenders.

And this girl. I dread the day she decides I can't pick out what she wears. It's so fun.

This weekend is shaping up to be full of pretty things! There is the RVA Art Walk party on Friday night, Erin's Alice themed birthday party on Saturday night, a product photo shoot on Sunday afternoon, and then a few days of Spring Break to knock out some projects and start planning our garden! I promised Brett a garden for Christmas and have a full post in the works on garden planning and other resources for anyone still waiting for the snow to melt. If you've ever kept a garden successfully in the Midwest I'd love to hear what worked or didn't.

In the meantime I've got quilt kits to pack, baby rattles to stitch together, and a few other projects that need attention. March has been slightly overwhelming so far but full of exciting things. What is keeping you busy this week?

xoxo,

Rachel

Is Japanese tape superior to others? Most things Japanese are...Blythe. I love your globe collection. Your baby is also a lovely colorful addition to your home.

Ruby's dress is fantastic; I think I used to have some leggings that looked like that when i was little.
The uo catalog is phenomenal this time round. I love the image with the striped clutch. Pretty colors.

Hi Rachel
I finished my first quilt a couple of days ago, using your tutorial. You can see at my blog. Feel free to save the pictures, if you like, I remember you wrote somewhere that you collect your tutorial-customers product photos.

It is certainly not my last quilt.

Love it! Your little one is just adorable! My poor little one just hangs out in sleepers most of the time, since her mama doesn't have a social life! I just ordered some Japanese tape on Tuesday, I can't wait to get it!

i've had moderate success with a form of gardening I like to call "plant a bunch of stuff and let it grow." I don't babysit the plants too much, for better or for worse. depending on the weather, tomatoes and peppers are a sure bet. zucchini and squash too. lettuce and spinach can be really satisfying to grow because it comes up so fast and the young leaves taste the best anyway. they do best in colder weather, depending on your zone you might be able to start some now. okay. . longest comment ever! love that japanese tape too. yum. :)

I am so in love with the Japanese tape!!! I'm not even sure what I'd do with it but it's so beautiful that I want it anyway!! Also, your clipboard idea for an inspiration wall is fantastic. I have cork boards covered in fabric... which I like... but I really love how you can easily grab a clipboard down and sit it next to you while working on a project! Mmmm.

garden info: we planted a spring garden last year. We planted all those hearty things that do well in spring: peas, lettuce, onions, and garlic. It was our first spring garden, so we just experimented a bit.

The peas attracted rabbits that mowed them down anytime they shot up. So some friends gave us chicken wire to protect the garden. That worked well. The lettuce did well also, but we planted far more than we consumed. We found out at the beginning of summer that the onions and garlic need more time to grow before pulling them up...but we did get some use out of the green onion tops.

I highly recommend Schaffitzel's (northside). They have always been very helpful in answering our questions. Even the silly, obvious ones. They have a great, everproducing lemon tree, also, that's fun to see. I have a smaller one like it that we purchased there, now in bloom. We like to support them vs., say, Lowe's in lawn and garden items. We support Lowe's enough in house remodeling. :)

Also, the yard waste recycling center sells compost for cheap, or you can go all out and buy Zoo Doo (elephant dung) from the zoo. But it's coveted, uh, stuff, so you will need to order it early.

Hope it goes well. It's a great process watching things grow, and being able to self-sustain.

Love the outfit Ruby is wearing. So adorable. I can't wait for your garden post. I live in KC and am so ready for Spring. I want to start planning my garden now. We are going to try and do a community garden with our friends this year so I have got to start planning asap!!

Are those mini clip boards? Where did you get them, if so? I want to do clip boards a la style school, but I haven't found a good source.

Oh! Those globes are lovely. :) And I'm crazy jealous of your typewriter - I'm still hunting for a pretty one. :)

I have been gardening for the past couple of years and I live in Kentucky. I don't know if we are midwest or south , kinda confusing. Anyhoo, I tried corn with no success. I did grow carrots, tomatoes(always easy), cilantro, my hairdresser has had much sucess with peppers so I am doing those this year. I tried pumpkins but they kind of over took my garden and didn't yield. Herbs have always been successful. Oh and yes squash and cucumbers are an easy one as well. Happy Gardening!

i have a failed gardening story from the eastcoast.... we had some various things planted in the flowerbeds lining the back of our house, but failed to notice before that the gutter directly above was leaky. very leaky.

and working on a research farm this past summer taught me a similar lesson... don't plant your garden in a low spot! or if you do, have a way to drain excess rainwater. just a thought!

Thanks for the link on the tape! It's a good price point and every penny counts these days!

they are from wal-mart and they are regular sized. I've had them for about two years now but they may still carry them.

I live in Michigan, in an apartment and can only grow in containers and have limited sun. That said, I had GREAT luck with lettuces. You can plant them in April and they come up in a month! Just run of the mill loose leaf varieties. Also check out Baker Heirloom Seeds (www.rareseeds.com so awesome and a beautiful catalog!)

so, speaking of decorating with tape - you've got to see what Kate Ward did for Kate Spade: http://www.katespade.com/family/index.jsp?categoryId=3679065
